Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is returning to filming the TV show later this month in Los Angeles. This comes after Amber told friends that she was leaving the franchise completely. Here is what you need to know about Amber and what is coming up for the Teen Mom franchise.

Amber Portwood returning to Teen Mom

In February, Amber Portwood said she was leaving the Teen Mom franchise. Amber had been part of the show since she first appeared on 16 & Pregnant. Now 32, Amber made the decision to leave although it was emphasized that she was not fired and this was just a decision on her part. However, it now sounds like she has changed her mind.

According to The Sun, Amber has decided to return to filming Teen Mom later in May. It sounds like Amber has talked about leaving the show for a long time. Yet, this time she was even going to make an official announcement. It also appears that she and her lawyers gave notice to MTV and the Teen Mom producers when she chose to leave.

However, a source said that MTV convinced her to return to the franchise. As a result, she will be a cast member again in the upcoming season of Teen Mom. One reason given for the return is that the show will shoot in Los Angeles, and that is where her ex, Andrew Glennon, moved to with their son James. While Amber lost custody of James, she can spend time with him while she is filming since she lives in Indiana.

Amber Portwood coming off a tough year

Losing custody of five-year-old James was one of the worst things to happen to Amber Portwood over the last year. After losing custody last July, Andrew then moved across the country to Los Angeles with their son, meaning she lost the chance to see her boy on a regular basis. This story played out for Amber on the Teen Mom: The Next Chapter reunion last year.

When interviewed by Dr. Drew on the special, she said that she was ready not to be there anymore. When he pushed her on it, she said she didn’t want to deal with James or the entire situation. More so, she called all of it a “horrible” experience.

This has been part of Amber’s life since she was a teen. When she appeared on 16 & Pregnant, she delivered her now 14-year-old daughter Leah with her ex, Gary Shirley. Throughout the years, the Teen Mom franchise covered her mental health struggles and her time spent in prison. She spent 17 months locked up for drug charges.
