Amy Slaton Withdraws Abuse Charges Against Michael Halterman
By now, most 1000-Lb. Sisters fans know that the Haltermans’ marriage is over. Amy Slaton Halterman and her ex-husband Michael had enough and decided to call it quits not long after Season 4 came to a close.
Apparently, things escalated once they decided to end their marriage. Amy even tried to pursue domestic violence charges against Michael. But now, it seems like the TLC star has decided to drop the charges after all.
What exactly prompted Amy to change her mind?
Amy Slaton and her ex battle it all out in court
The Sun shared that the Haltermans went to court on May 3 in their home state of Kentucky. Photos from the scene indicate that Amy’s siblings Chris Combs and Amanda Halterman also came to support her during the proceedings. The publication asserted that everyone from Amy’s group was incredibly frosty toward Michael.
While on the stand, Amy Slaton Halterman requested to withdraw the domestic violence charges. The presiding judge agreed.
“In lieu of the charges, a civil restraining order will be filed separately in their ongoing divorce case,” The Sun reported. “No contact will be permitted outside of their privately agreed-upon contract; however, they are allowed to communicate via text exclusively about parenting their sons.”
But apparently, the exes had much more to hammer out in court. The publication went on to say that Michael Halterman now wants joint custody of his sons with Amy.
Since Amy’s sons are so young, she apparently didn’t think it was a good idea to move them around so often. However, the judge has not yet come to a decision about this.
For now, fans will need to stay tuned and see what happens with Amy and Michael’s divorce. Without a doubt, there will be updates to share shortly.
Is this just another storyline for Season 5?
The Sun also pointed out that camera crews were visible at the courthouse — no doubt filming scenes for another season of 1000-Lb. Sisters. When Season 5 eventually rolls around, viewers will be able to see the Haltermans’ split onscreen.
Although fans remain curious and interested in the Haltermans’ divorce, some can’t help but wonder if this is a fabricated, or at the very least embellished, storyline.
Tammy Slaton married Caleb Willingham at the end of Season 4, but they’re reportedly also divorcing. The quick turnaround led some fans to believe that they only married for the sake of views.
Could the show actually be manufacturing drama for the sake of ratings?
In this case, viewers certainly hope not. Breaking up a family would be pretty horrible if it was just for the sake of views and higher rankings.
