‘DWTS’ Peta & Maks Introduce New Family Member To Son
For several years now, DWTS pro dancers Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd longed to expand their family. They are the parents of six-year-old Shai, but really wanted to give him a sibling.
Thankfully, they’re about to get their wish this summer. Peta is due to give birth in June 2023.
However, Maks and Peta also decided that now was also a perfect time to introduce someone new and special to young Shai. Keep reading to get the inside scoop.

The Chmerkovkiys are about to welcome a new baby into the world. This alone is going to be a major adjustment, but the family isn’t afraid of changes.
In fact, they recently added a brand new family member to the house ahead of the new baby’s birth. What exactly did DWTS pros Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd gift their son Shai?
As it turns out, Maks and Peta decided their home wasn’t complete without a puppy either.
“Meet our newest family member Hachi Chmerkovskiy 🐶” Peta captioned her Instagram post. “This little guy has brought so much joy into our lives these past 2 days with oodles of kisses and licks and an uber playful temperament….(also lots of poops, pees and cries at night🥹)”
In the video, Maks covers his son’s eyes and leads him into a room where Peta is waiting with the new puppy. Six-year-old Shai’s eyes light up as he dives onto the floor to love on his new pet. As the video continues, it’s apparent that everyone is in love with the new puppy.
“Shai is obsessed and we let him take the lead on naming the puppy. We probably bit off more than we can chew with another actual human arriving soon, but hey 🤷🏼♀️ there is never a perfect time right? Lol” the dancer concluded her post.

Shai Chmerkovskiy also has a fun name picked out for his baby sibling too
Although the Chmerkovskiys will welcome their new baby soon, they’re keeping a lot of the details quiet. The family hasn’t publically revealed the gender or names they’ve considered. However, DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd did reveal that Shai does have a name picked out for his new sibling.
The dancer told OK! Magazine that Shai would like to call the baby “Baby Snakes.”
“He’s so funny. No. We won’t be using that name for the baby, but he cannot wait to share his toys,” the 36-year-old shared. “I think he’s just looking forward to having a teammate here. Somebody that he can love.”
