Rick and Morty: The Anime is the epitome of a show that nobody knew they wanted until it started happening. A series of anime shorts from 2020 and 2021 are now turning into a full series. The announcement came soon after the release of the viral anime short Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil). Now fans finally have a poster giving a glimpse into the series that should be arriving sometime in 2023. But what’s coming in this series that’s unique to the main show? Let’s talk about Rick and Morty: The Anime and its new poster.
Rick And Morty: The Anime
The poster came alongside a slew of new announcements for the upcoming HBO Max and Discovery Plus merger. Rick and Morty: The Anime will be one of the first original titles on the new service simply named Max. Max will be adding a number of exciting franchise titles in the upcoming years, like a Harry Potter revival series.
The Rick and Morty: The Anime poster is fairly simple, but establishes its visual style. It just shows the titular characters standing curiously in front of one of Rick’s iconic green portals. The art style is similar, but not identical to what was seen in Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God.
The anime is set to arrive sometime in 2023, although a more specific release window isn’t known as of right now. Considering all fans have at this point is a poster and a promise of this year, it’s likely safe to assume the series is arriving sometime in the fall or winter. Hopefully, that means a first trailer comes sometime before the summer is over.
Big Changes
The hit sci-fi cartoon series is undergoing a plethora of changes right now. On top of getting its own anime, the main show also just had a major change in command. Co-creator and voice of both main characters Justin Roiland had to leave the show after a domestic battery charge. This led to an insider report exposing a number of misconduct allegations against Roiland from various anonymous R&M team members.
Recently, however, the charges against Roiland were dropped. The Orange County District Attorney’s office stated the reason as being a lack of evidence to convict. Justin put a post out on his Twitter finally addressing what he calls “horrible lies” reported about him. There isn’t any comment from Adult Swim at this time as to whether or not he will be returning to the show.
