‘American Pickers:’ Mike Wolfe Ready For Round Two
American Pickers has been struggling through its recent season, but Mike Wolfe continues to look forward with his career. He now has his sights set on another restoration, and this one is a bit removed from his dealings on his reality show.
Here is what Mike Wolfe is currently working on and why it is a big deal.
Mike Wolfe looking at new restoration
Mike Wolfe has a new goal and he is working with the historic board in Columbia, Tennessee, on dealing with an older property in the town. He said that he is preparing for “round two” with the board as they discuss taking an old 1950s Esso gas station and repurposing it.
Mike said his goal is to create a green space in the lot of the gas station. With the building only 900 square feet, the outdoor space will allow them to open up more room for future businesses while also inviting a nice outdoor experience in the area.
Mike also went on to declare that the classic gas stations and car dealerships matter and are important to the history of American transportation. Keeping those historical buildings alive for future generations to see is important in remembering the past. His goal is to repurpose them so they can serve the public while keeping them around for future generations to see.
American Pickers continues to struggle
While Mike Wolfe has big plans for this new endeavor, the future of American Pickers remains in flux. Ever since Mike had his falling out with longtime friend Frank Fritz and fired him from the show, fans have taken sides. The fans who took Frank’s side seemed to stop watching.
It became even worse after Frank’s medical issues and his stroke, after which, it painted Mike in an even darker light. As a result, the ratings for the one-time fan-favorite reality TV show have been all over the place this season.
When it returned strong on January 4, with 943,000 viewers, the show saw lower ratings than usual after that. Part of the blame was some fans missing Frank on the show. The ratings have slowly increased as the season wore on, and there were 844,000 viewers for the March 8 episode last month with the tour of the Packard Plant in Detroit. This was up from 7111,000 viewers the week before, which was the lowest of the season.
There have been plenty of rumors that American Pickers won’t be around much longer if the ratings don’t remain consistent. With ventures like this, Mike Wolfe has ensured that he keeps doing what he loves, even if the show ends up concluding.
