‘The Masked Singer’ Delivers First Save: Who Are California Rolls?
There is one change to this season’s The Masked Singer. The panelists have a chance to save one singer in each batch this season. That came in the third week when Medusa was on a two-week winning streak before The California Rolls knocked her off.
Here is what happened and who we believe the California Rolls are.
California Rolls win this week on The Masked Singer
The format of The Masked Singer since last season sees two people go home every episode. However, there is now a chance for one save per batch of singers. That happened on the March 1 episode of the hit reality competition series.
This week, Medusa was coming in after winning two weeks in a row. If she won tonight, she would move on to the next round. Next week, there will be three new singers. However, this week saw the first save and two people will move on to the next round in the competition when they return.
The three singers this week included Medusa, The California Rolls, and Polar Bear. This was New York week. Medusa sang “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra. Polar Bear was a man and he sang Blondie’s “Rapture.” After this, the California Rolls scale out and it was five people. They sang Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi.”
The fans voted and Polar Bear lost and was unmasked. It was DJ Grandmaster Flash.
After this, Medusa and California Roll sang Billy Joe’s “Uptown Girl.” When it ended, the panel chose to give the win to California Roll, sending them to the quarterfinals. However, Medusa (who we think is Bishop Briggs) ended up saved when Nicole Scherzinger used her Ding Dong Keep it On bell to save her.
Who are California Rolls on The Masked Singer?
First up, look at the clues given out on The Masked Singer. “This entrée has many sides,” one of them said. They also said they had been on Broadway before and they got married. “Just like the city of New York, this Cali Roll never sleeps,” another said, adding, “I got used to it from deejaying all night long.”
They also said they went to California for “gleeful rays and the silver screens.” There was also a package showing Snoop Dogg and Dolly Parton. They also had a slice of pizza with five billion written on it. The panelists guessed names like Pentatonix, the cast of High School Musical, the cast of Pitch Perfect, and the Broadway cast of Lion King.
With five singers, this is the biggest group ever to appear on The Masked Singer. This is almost certainly Pentatonix. The clues match up as they have covered several Broadway hits and Kirstin Maldonado appeared on Broadway in Kinky Boots. Matt Sallee recently got married. There is a tiger drawing (they sang “Eye of the Tiger”), and they also sang “Jolene” by Dolly Parton and five billion is what their YouTube views have eclipsed.
