Is Mama June Shannon completely blind? This has come into question a handful of times but for different reasons. Yet, if she is not entirely blind, how much can she see? Plus, how would she have lost her sight, to begin with? Read on for more details.

Is Mama June Shannon Completely Blind?

For years, Mama June has always needed someone to drive her around. She also is consistently grabbing family members’ or partners’ arms in order to go over steps and such. At one point, when June did not show up for her grandson’s birth, her daughter, Pumpkin made a comment. She noted how June had gotten her eyes fixed so that she could see Pumpkin’s first child, Ella right after she was born. So, why did she need to get her eyes fixed and is she completely blind?

According to Life & Style, Mama June is considered legally blind, something that she had initially shared on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The blindness came from untreated childhood cataracts. A decade ago, a TLC spokesperson had this to say to the Daily Mail: “She can’t have surgery because they believe it could do more harm than good. The damages are that bad.” Ultimately, in 2018, she did tell People that she underwent surgeries as the pain was just too much. Aside from cataracts, Mama June had a retinal detachment in her left eye.

“I can’t do anything and have to lay down most of the time and take care of my vision. I have to worry about that right now. That’s my main concern,” June said at the time. She also noted that her vision in her left eye was “a four out of ten.” Yet, she would be happy if it stayed that way. Fans may recall that she and her daughter Jessica were supposed to move in together during the last season of Road to Redemption. June would get Jessica a car after she had a hand in her daughter’s car being taken away but Jessica would have to drive her around.

Social Media Is An Issue

With Mama June’s eye struggles, she has often been seen using talk-to-text. This was a big issue for her daughter, Honey Boo Boo when the two were on The Masked Singer. HBB claimed her mother kept her up talking into and on her phone. Plus, fans have commented on how close June gets to the camera when she is answering questions on TikTok. This is mainly because she probably cannot see them from afar. So, as of now, Mama June appears to be legally blind but not completely blind.
