How old is Dick Van Dyke on The Masked Singer?
When The Masked Singer Season 9 premiered, there were three people competing and only one would move on to the second week. Those costumed performers were Mustang, Gnome, and Medusa. The first to unmask was Gnome, who was a legendary actor in Dick Van Dyke. The second was Mustang, who was country singer Sara Evans.
Of course, the biggest shock of the two was Van Dyke. That is mostly because of how old Dick Van Dyke is. The iconic actor is 97 years old. Born in 1925, he is the oldest person to ever compete on The Masked Singer, beating out last season’s William Shatner, who was 91 when he competed on the show.
Dick Van Dyke sang the Frank Sinatra song “When You’re Smiling.” As with the format this season, Van Dyke was the first eliminated. The judges could save one singer in each batch, but this didn’t happen for either competitor this week.
Sara Evans was dressed as Mustang and she sang “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake and “Diamonds” by Rihanna in the Battle Royale. She was the second unmasked on The Masked Singer. Medusa sang “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish and will move on to the second week of the competition.
Who is Dick Van Dyke on The Masked Singer?
Dick Van Dyke is an iconic actor and comedian who was born in 1925 and started his work in the entertainment industry in 1947. This started as a comedy duo that performed in nightclubs with Phil Erickson. He ended up making his first TV appearance in 1954 as a comedian.
In 1961, he hit the big time with his own show called The Dick Van Dyke Show. Not only did this make Van Dyke a star, but it also introduced the world to names like Carl Reiner and Mary Tyler Moore. Van Dyke won three Emmys for the show. His show had a revival in 1971 and he ended up moving on to The Carol Burnett Show in 1977.
However, most people today know Van Dyke thanks to his iconic role in the Disney movie Mary Poppins. He played Bert, the chimney sweep with a cockney accent, where he sang the song “Chim Chim Cher-ee.” That song won an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Most recently, he had a cameo in the 2018 movie Mary Poppins Returns. Dick Van Dyke has won a Grammy Award, four Primetime Emmys, and a Tony Award in his career. In 2013, he won the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2021, he received Kennedy Center Honors.
