‘DWTS’: Why Cheryl Burke Says She Isn’t Ready To Date Again
Former Dancing With The Stars pro Cheryl Burke is happily single at the moment — and it appears she wants things to stay that way.
She and her ex Matthew Lawrence finalized their divorce in the fall of 2022. She later won custody of their dog, Ysabella. And now that Cheryl has officially retired from DWTS, she has many options available to her.
However, it doesn’t appear that dating is going to be on the table. The professional dancer recently declared that she’s just not ready to date yet. See what she has to say on the matter.
Cheryl Burke is more focused on other areas of her life at the moment
Although Cheryl Burke and Matthew Lawrence officially divorced this past fall, they publically announced their split in early 2022. In a nutshell, they’ve been apart for quite some time now. The Boy Meets World star is now dating TLC singer Chilli. But it doesn’t seem like Cheryl wants to jump into a new relationship at the moment.
The 38-year-old definitely isn’t ruling out love sometime down the line. It’s just not her time yet.
“I refuse to use dating apps. And Patti ‘Millionaire Matchmaker’ Stanger, she’s working on it, but it’s not easy and I’m not in a rush,” Cheryl told PEOPLE in a recent interview. “I think I definitely have a lot of growing and evolving to do, and now…I have the time to really do that without the anxiety of a timeline. It couldn’t have happened at a better time, because I’m ready for it now.”
The professional dancer went on to say that she wouldn’t mind being single for a few years. Right now, self-care is her top priority.
“I mean, I deserve it. I’ve always put everyone in front of me, so this is the first time I’m actually being selfish, but in a good way,” she continued. Cheryl went on to credit Ysabella for helping her navigate this new chapter of her life.
Don’t expect the pro dancer to be a judge for DWTS Season 32
When Cheryl Burke announced her retirement, she made it clear that she wanted to replace head judge Len Goodman. But that reportedly will not happen. The dancer revealed that the executive team turned her down for that position.
In fact, it seems like the exec team may not replace Len at all. Strictly Come Dancing judge and ballroom legend Shirley Ballas shared in an interview that it seemed as if DWTS will stick to three judges this fall.
Plenty of fans think this may be the best possible move. When there are four judges, eliminations sometimes get a little hairy. Are you happy that there will likely be three judges, or were you hoping for a replacement for Len Goodman? Share your opinions in the comments.
