What Is ZipString On Shark Tank?
Stephen Fazio and Austin Hillam created ZipString just over a year ago, and their invention went viral when people saw the creative and mesmerizing toy. The ZipString is a toy that floats a seemingly standard loop of string in the air. Whatever the Zipster does, the string will follow the person’s movements.
When people saw this new toy, it was the right place and the right time. With the pandemic keeping people in their homes, the company sold and shipped thousands of the toys to over 50 countries around the globe, racking up a lot of sales. According to Shark Tank, over 200 million people have seen the toy in action across different social media platforms.
Stephen and Austin asked for a $100,000 investment from the sharks in exchange for 10% equity. When talking to the sharks, the men explained they only sold 10,000 units because the manufacturing process was not prepared for the mass orders after the viral marketing. They said the problems were fixed and they could now handle large orders.
Kevin O’Leary and Robert Herjavec were immediately interested. Robert offered $100,000 for 10% equity and Kevin said he would offer $100,000 for just 9%. It seemed like a bidding war was on. However, what wound up happening was that Kevin and Robert teamed up and offered $100,000 for 20% equity.
