‘GMA’ Gio Benitez Trolls Sam Champion Live On-Air?

GMA meteorologist Sam Champion paid a compliment to Gio Benitez. He said he had the “biggest smile on TV.” However, that didn’t stop Gio from trolling him live on-air. The two men took part in some friendly banter during a recent broadcast. Keep on reading to learn more.

Pays Gio Benitez the biggest compliment

Gio Benitez had to fill in for the veterans on Monday’s broadcast. Sam Champion was the only one who returned from his holiday. As TV Shows Ace previously reported, he traveled to Florida for Christmas. The two co-anchors shared how they spend their weekends.

On Monday’s live episode of Good Morning America, Gio sat behind the main desk with co-anchors Janai Norman and Mary Bruce. The trio filled in for Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan. Gio shared what was coming up on today’s show.

He then took it over to Sam Champion, who talked about the weekend weather. Gio put his hand over his eyes as if he was covering them from the sun. He was poking fun at Sam’s trip to the Sunshine State.

“Hey, Sammy, you are there?” Gio asked him.

“Yes, sir. I am,” Sam Champion said. “Gio Benitez. Otherwise known as the biggest smile on the ABC TV News Family. It is so nice to see you, my friend. Merry Merry and happy happy.”

“It is so nice to see you, but listen we’ve got some problems,” Gio joked. “Because I wake up Saturday morning and I’m shivering, right? I’m waking up and I’m just going through Instagram here. It’s like seven degrees outside.”

Gio added: “You were on the beach?”

“As I said, Good Morning. I have nothing really,” Sam Champion said. “And I’m here now, so how about that?”

Gio continued to troll him for taking his warm and sunny vacation. Once again, Sam complimented him on his smile. Gio’s husband Tommy DiDario shared the clip on Twitter with the caption: “We will take every opportunity to troll our Sam Champion. Catch Gio Benitez at the desk all week on @GMA.”

Sam Champion returned from Florida

Sam Champion spent the holidays in Florida. The GMA fan favorite shared a clip of going for a swim in the ocean. He admitted that it was warm where he was. He wanted to share some of his fun in the sun with his social media followers.

As TV Shows Ace previously reported, Gio also shared his holiday festivities. He got a kiss on the cheek from Tommy. Fans couldn’t stop gushing over the adorable video. The couple stayed in New York as they had a classic cold-weather Christmas.
