‘Below Deck’ Producers Share Secrets Behind Shocking Moments
Below Deck producers share the secrets behind shocking moments. The franchise is about more than just rich people who enjoy expensive yachting trips. It also follows a group of crew members who work, fight, and party together. The producers don’t interfere with the crew members to ensure the best drama potential.
Is Below Deck scripted?
Courtland Cox spoke to BravoTV.com about the Below Deck franchise. It was hard to get yachties on board with the show when they started casting for the first season. Most of the yachting industry was hesitant to be associated with a reality show at the time. It made its debut on Bravo in 2013 and went on to air 10 seasons.
“Initially, it was very hard to get yacht crew members to commit to doing the show because it was an unknown entity,” Courtland told BravoTV.com. “People didn’t know what Below Deck was.”
Over the years, many yachties have wanted to join the ship. Sort to speak. Some fans wonder if most of them join the show because they want to become famous. There has also been speculation as to if production has anything to do with casting the wildest yachties.
However, Below Deck producers claim they have no say in casting. They vet the charter passengers. They go through an interview procedure. Producers also claim they have no influence over how the charter guests act on the show.
“I think that guests that come on and having an amazing time, and you look at them as a producer and go, ‘I want to live that life,'” Courtland says. “Those are the guests I love seeing.”
Most shocking moments happened unscripted
Courtland claims some of the most shocking moments on Below Deck were completely unscripted. They don’t have any involvement with the drama that goes on. Most of the things that happened, took place in real-time. There is no time to edit scenes or reshoot them like with other reality shows.
“That’s the kind of thing that keeps me from coming back to the show,” Courtland explained to the outlet. “Every season, there are fix or six moments that so completely engage me and so suck me in that I’m like, ‘This is why Below Deck is an amazing show that you can’t do anywhere else.'”
Some of the most shocking moments on Below Deck was when Kat Held snuck off the boat in Season 1. Malia and Adam’s hookup in Santorini was another memorable moment from Season 2 of Below Deck Mediterranean. Fans also remember Eddie and Rocky’s hookup in the laundry room during Season 3, when he was still in a relationship. This caused production to add cameras to the room in the following season.
Other shocking moments include Ashton Pieannar almost going overboard in Season 6. At that moment, a cameraman broke the fourth wall to jump into the water and save his life.
