‘Honey Boo Boo’ BOMBSHELL: Producers Hid Sugar Bear’s Abuse

Mike ‘Sugar Bear’ Thompson seemed to embrace Mama June’s daughters from a previous relationship. When the family landed the reality series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, it was an interesting family dynamic. Previously, Mama June Shannon and her youngest daughter, Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson appeared on Toddlers & Tiaras.

Alana was a breakout star therefore her family getting their own series just seemed natural. June was committed to Alana’s father, Sugar Bear. However, she had three girls from other relationships who he appeared to treat as his own. Now, it seems all was not what it appeared. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Producers Hid Sugars Bear’s Abuse

In the latest season of Road to Redemption, Sugar Bear was nowhere to be seen. Finally, he popped up to basically give up his rights to Alana so her older sister Pumpkin could have sole custody. Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird had been caring for Alana since 2019 when their mother struggled with substance issues and got arrested. Sugar Bear has been in and out but it was his wife, Jennifer who caused a lot of unnecessary drama that no one wanted to deal with.

There had been abuse with a man June dated a while back that her eldest daughter, Anna Cardwell has been candid about. Now, Pumpkin and Alana are opening up about secrets from their time on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. According to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, the girls appeared on the Dumb Blonde podcast. They opened up about some sad situations that happened during filming on HCHBB that included abuse at the hands of Sugar Bear.

The hardest part, for the girls, was that production knew all about it. “What a lot of people didn’t see on the actual show was a lot of abuse, physically from Sugar Bear. Physical and mental,” shared Pumpkin. She revealed a serious incident that involved keys and her eye: “[When I was] 14, he threw a set of keys at my eyes, and my retina had become detached. So I had to get a buckle put on the back of my eye and stuff like that. It just started to get progressively worse.”

The Cover Up

Despite this disgusting incident, it actually was not a secret. The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo producers witnessed it all. Yet, the 2012 situation was altered for the show. It was alleged that Sugar Bear threw the keys to Pumpkin rather than at her. However, he supposedly missed and that was how she sustained the injuries. To add insult to injury, a reenactment was done in which everyone made it a funny situation.

Pumpkin admits that the abuse was not hidden from the cameras yet they made sure it was not made public. More so, Mama June knew exactly what was going on, Alana acknowledges. She claims that June was right there when the key incident happened but did nothing. June also participated in the abuse but, again, production let it slide. In 2017, June did finally admit that Sugar Bear caused the eye injury but he continues to deny any wrongdoing.
