Eiichiro Oda Busy Refining Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Live-Action Series
Netflix’s upcoming One Piece live-action series has creator Eiichiro Oda on his toes and wants nothing less than perfection for the same. Given how complicated anime series can be in terms of storytelling, achieving the same with live-action adaptations can be particularly difficult. However, Eiichiro wishes to leave no stone unturned to ensure that the live-action adaptation turns out just as amazing. Keep reading to find out more details!
Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece Live-Action Series Was Announced In 2017
One Piece is being produced by Eiichiro Oda in collaboration with Tomorrow Studios. The upcoming series follows the footsteps of Death Note’s live-action movie released in 2017 and the Cowboy Bebop that happened in 2021. The creator will also serve as the executive producer for the adaptation. The series was initially announced in July 2017 by Hiroyuki Nakano, the Weekly Shonen Jump’s editor-in-chief.

The One Piece manga debuted on July 22, 1997, in the Weekly Shonen Jump issues with 1000+ chapters published to date. With a total of 95 volumes, the manga is currently in its final arc. The production for the live-action One Piece series was initially set to start in 2020 in Cape Town, South Africa. However, it was delayed due to the pandemic. Later, production resumed in March 2021. One Piece Season 1 will cover the anime and manga’s East Blue saga.
Eiichiro Oda Strictly Reviews All One Piece Scripts Manually
With the series currently in post-production, Eiichiro Oda has focused all his energy on achieving perfection and fine-tuning the series. As per ComicBook, the 47-year-old has been working on the manga series for more than twenty years. With the War For Wano nearing its end, the manga is now in its Final Arc. This will end Luffy’s journey by revealing the One Piece treasure.
The live-action showrunner Matt Owens recently revealed that Eiichiro Oda corrects and reviews all the scripts for the series manually. The writers also have to gain approval for any changes from Eiichiro if the outcome differs a lot from the source material.

Twitter outlet, Artur-Library Of Ohara tweeted about Eiichiro’s involvement in the adaptation. They wrote, “Oda is massively involved with the One Piece Live Action, reviewing and correcting all scripts manually and checking in on the entire process consistently across the months. Any deviations from the source material also need to be approved by him to be even considered.”
Will One Piece Live-Action Series Be Successful?
If the past is proof, anime fans have always been skeptical about live-action adaptations. A good example of the same was the cancellation of Cowboy Bebop after Season 1. Despite Oda being a big part of the project, fans are still not convinced about the success of the live-action adaptation. The series is yet to confirm a release date and it doesn’t have a trailer as well.
