Cheryl Burke Says Leaving ‘DWTS’ Is Like Getting Divorced
Cheryl Burke’s time as a professional dancer on Dancing With The Stars has come to an end. She’s enjoyed her 26 seasons as a dancer on the show, but all good things have to come to an end eventually.
The past year has been incredibly difficult for Cheryl. She and her ex-husband Matthew Lawrence filed for divorce at the beginning of 2022. The split was finalized this fall. Now, she’s free to move forward in life and pursue whatever projects she chooses.
But in some ways, Cheryl Burke believes that moving on from Dancing With The Stars is a lot like getting divorced. What exactly did she have to say?

The DWTS Season 31 finale was incredibly fun for viewers. Few were shocked when Mark Ballas and Charli D’Amelio took home the Mirrorball Trophy.
Many eyes were focused on the final four, but it was great to see the rest of the Season 31 contestants have one final performance too. Cheryl performed a short routine with her partner Sam Champion. Later on, she had a final farewell performance with Pasha Pashkov and Louis Van Amstel. There was hardly a dry eye in the house as Cheryl took her final bow.
“I am overwhelmed. I’ve been trying to hold back the tears, I would say, because I wanted to really perform the best I could. Now with all of that behind me, it’s bittersweet … but I have to just trust my intuition,” Cheryl told Page Six after her last performance. “[It’s been] so hard. This is like another type of divorce, but an amicable one. I do know though that I love to evolve as a human being. I think for me, I’ve done 26 seasons as a professional dancer and I know I’m more than capable to do other things as well.”
From here on out, the sky is the limit. The dancer has so many opportunities available to her now.
Where will the seasoned dancer go from here?
Cheryl Burke may not be a pro dancer with DWTS any longer. But that doesn’t mean she’s done with the show. In fact, she would love to come back and fill in Len Goodman’s empty seat.
“They are very well aware that I want that seat. It’s not that I just want it, I just know that I can contribute because I am an expert in ballroom dancing. I can say that with confidence,” Cheryl told Variety recently. “I can also say that my teaching methods haven’t been known to being sugar coated. … Len is really technical and really tells you how it is. That is my style. It would be nice to see two women on the panel!”
