Peta Murgatroyd Dishes: Who Are Her Favorite ‘DWTS’ Partners?
DWTS Season 22 champion Peta Murgatroyd made her return to the ballroom this year after sitting out during Season 30. Her fans were so excited to have her back — even though she and her partner Jason Lewis finished in last place. Peta isn’t actively competing right now, but she still plays an important part in the ballroom. Fans can still spot her here and there as a backup dancer or performing filler routines.
Peta will definitely have a more active role in the Season 31 finale this Monday night. Right now, she’s hard at work in the rehearsal room and can’t wait to show fans her moves.
With any luck, the 36-year-old will be back for Season 32 — and maybe she will get to stay in the competition a little longer. But until then, she’s spilling some juicy DWTS secrets. Who are her favorite former partners?
Peta Murgatroyd’s favorite partners aren’t always the most naturally talented dancers
Maxim caught up with Peta ahead of the DWTS Season 31 finale to chat about her favorite partnerships while on the show.
“Basketball players are so huge. I’ve danced with six-foot-ten, I’ve danced with Lamar Odom. It’s really difficult,” Peta told the publication as she thought about her former partners. “I feel like the football players, number one, they’re shorter, and number two, they’re faster on their feet. They have this ability to move quicker in different directions and pick up the moves far faster than basketball players.”
That’s precisely why she enjoyed partnering with Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver. They went on to win Dancing With The Stars Season 14. She also spoke well of her partnership with basketball player Lamar Odom.
However, there’s still one very special partnership that Peta remembers fondly.
Tommy Chong was Peta’s partner in Season 19 and he was 76 years old at the time. She didn’t think they had a prayer, but they ended up going pretty far.
“It ended up being one of my favorite seasons because he’s such a wonderful guy,” Peta laughed, remembering her time with Tommy. “He put me through hell with his memory. I guess the years of smoking and stuff like that, it wasn’t the easiest to get him prepared for a routine. It would be a lot of repetition. And then the next day it would be starting from the beginning again. He said he wasn’t smoking during the seasons. He got to the semifinals ‘cause everybody just loved him.”

The Season 22 champ is still heavily focused on her family too
Peta’s fans know that she and her husband Maks Chmerkovskiy have been struggling with infertility for the past few years. She chose to return to DWTS in order to deal with the painful feelings through dance. It also served as an excellent distraction. Maks says the couple isn’t giving up on having another baby yet, though. Furthermore, the couple wants to share their experience and help other couples realize they aren’t alone.
