‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 4 Starts Production
It is official. The Umbrella Academy is returning for a fourth and final season. Not only is the popular comic book adaptation returning, but showrunner Steve Blackman just revealed that production is underway and revealed the premiere episode’s title.

Umbrella Academy Season 4 starts production
Steve Blackman has been The Umbrella Academy showrunner since he created the Netflix series in 2019. Based on the Dark Horse Comics series by artist Gabriel Ba and My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way, the series is a sci-fi fantasy series about a group of superpowered kids raised to be heroes, only to end up as dysfunctional members of society.
However, they ended up reuniting in the first season when their adoptive father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) died. It was at this time that they learned the apocalypse was coming and they had to figure out a way to stop it. They failed and ended up thrown back in time in Season 2, where they failed to stop another apocalyptic event. In Season 3, they traveled back into the present day only to find the timeline had changed and a new group of heroes called The Sparrow Academy replaced them. They then failed to stop yet another apocalypse.
The fourth season of The Umbrella Academy will probably see them faced with another apocalypse. Since it is the last season, they will either stop it or it will finally finish these misfit heroes off for good. The good news is that the new season should be here sooner rather than later.
Blackman posted a photo on Twitter of the cover page of his script for the Season 4 premiere. This included the title of the episode, “The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want.” Blackman and Jesse McKeown have both written episodes for the series. McKeown wrote two episodes in Season 2 and two in Season 3. Blackman also captioned the photo, “And so it begins… one last time.”
What will happen in Season 4 of The Umbrella Academy
The Umbrella Academy changed things up quite a bit from the comics. As a result, there is no telling what Season 4 will look like. Hotel Oblivion in Season 3 was in the third and final graphic novel for Way’s comics. However, it wasn’t a regular hotel but a prison in space for all the criminals the Umbrella Academy stopped.
Could the fourth season bring something like that into the picture? There is a lot of stuff happening in space by the end of the comics, and the series has not gone there yet. However, the comics are also a lot weirder than the Netflix series, so expect something very different, even if it keeps the basic feeling of the books.
