Netflix’s Fantasy Drama ‘The Sandman’ Renewed For Season 2
After seeing massive success among fans, Netflix’s The Sandman has been renewed for a second season. The fantasy drama series premiered on the streaming platform on August 5, 2022, and was watched for a total of 69.5 Million hours in the first week itself. As it entered the second week, the total watched hours doubled to 127.5 Million. After this, the series scored 77.2 Million and 53.9 Million watched hours in the third and fourth weeks consecutively.
DC Comics Accidentally Leaked The Sandman Renewal News
The confirmation of the series’ renewal comes after an accidental leak on DC Comics’ official Twitter page. The tweet which is deleted now, reads, “The dream continues. The Sandman will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless.”

This accidental leak happened after cancellation rumors started circulating on social media. Gaiman even called out a fake Twitter account snubbing the fake rumors.
What Is Netflix’s The Sandman About?
The Sandman Season 1 had a total of 10 episodes and is based on Gaiman’s DC Comics of the same name. As per Deadline, it trails Morpheus, played by Tom Sturridge, who is a personification of dreams. He is one of the seven Endless entities. Season 1 started with Dream captured in an occult ritual back in 1916. After living in captivity for 106 years, he escapes and attempts to restore order to the chaos in his realm, The Dreaming.

- Patton Oswalt as Matthew-The Raven’s voice
- Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine

- Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death
The Sandman Season 1 also had a surprise bonus episode released along with the regular episodes. The bonus episodes titled Calliope and A Dream Of A Thousand Cats featured guest appearances by James McAvoy, Sandra Oh, Michael Sheen, and David Tennant.
The Sandman’s Official Twitter Account Confirms The Renewal
The Sandman’s official Twitter page also confirmed the news of the series’ return. The tweet read, “Yes, it’s true: The Sandman will return to Netflix. Says @neilhimself: ‘There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them…Now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell.’”

Even with a successful run in its first season, Gaiman did reveal his concerns regarding the series’ renewal for a second season. Given how expensive the show is hefty viewership just might not have been enough for Netflix to renew it. Yet, fans rooting for the renewal did help with the renewal of the series. As of now, there is no official release date for The Sandman Season 2.
