DWTS pro Val Chmerkovskiy and his partner Gabby Windey have an excellent shot at taking home the Mirrorball Trophy this year. For several weeks in a row they were tied for first place. However, they’ve slipped a bit in recent weeks. It will take a lot of hard work if they want to take over the top spot and dethrone Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas.

Halloween Night is the theme for Monday night’s episode, but there’s a bit of a problem. Val Chmerkovskiy is unable to perform this week. Find out why and what will happen to Gabby.

Val Chmerkovskiy won’t be in the ballroom on Halloween Night

Since the COVID-19 pandemic first happened, many television shows have tried to find ways to work with and around the illness. Val Chmerkovskiy has tested positive for the virus, which means he will be unable to perform this week. However, the show has a plan in place for situations exactly like this. It doesn’t appear that he passed the virus to Gabby, so she is still allowed to compete.

The official Dancing With The Stars Instagram page confirmed the unfortunate news.

“Sending well wishes for a fast recovery to @valentin. He has tested positive for COVID and will not be performing in Monday’s #HalloweenNight episode. @alanbersten will be stepping in to accompany @gabby.windey. #DWTS,” the account wrote.

Val also sadly informed fans that he would have to sit out until he tested negative. Thankfully he hasn’t spread it to his wife Jenna, who is pregnant with their first child.

DWTS pro Daniella Karagach tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the season. Troupe member Alexis Warr filled in for her during those weeks.

Val Chmerkovskiy seems to believe he will be ready to go by next week, but he will have to test negative before that will happen. For the time being, he doesn’t appear to have any severe symptoms. Fans hope he will be back in the ballroom soon.

What can viewers expect from Halloween Night?

The DWTS judges just sent Alan Bersten and Jessie James Decker packing at the end of this week’s episode. It’s definitely unexpected to see Alan back so quickly, but Gabby and her supporters are glad he’s available to take over.

The setlist for Halloween Night is out right now. There will be team dances on top of the individual couple routines. Gabby and Alan will perform the Argentine Tango to “Shivers” by District 78 ft. Mikayla Lynn.

For the team routines, they are part of “Team Wicked.” This group will perform a routine to “The Witches Are Back” from Hocus Pocus 2. Team Wicked includes:

  • Vinny & Koko
  • Shangela & Gleb
  • Gabby & Alan
  • Heidi & Artem
  • Jordin & Brandon
