Will Jamie Lee Curtis Join ‘One Piece’ Live Action Cast?
There is a live-action One Piece series coming to Netflix in 2023 and a lot of fans want to see Jamie Lee Curtis take a role in it. Curtis was recently on Caja de Peliculas and was asked about the possibility of her joining the cast of the series.
Here is what Curtis said about the opportunity and why she could be perfect for the live-action adaptation of the popular anime series.
Will Jamie Lee Curtis be in One Piece?
Jamie Lee Curtis most recently appeared as Laurie Strode in Halloween Ends. However, when she appeared on Caja de Peliculas, they wanted to talk about something completely different. The interviewer mentioned how the internet wants to see Curtis appear in the live-action One Piece adaptation for Netflix.
Jamie joked about the “whole internet” wanting her in the series before she mentioned that she wasn’t part of the first season. She didn’t even seem to know for sure if the first season was finished or not. The interviewer mentioned the first season was still in post-production, but it should be out in 2023. Jamie then gave a side-eye to the camera and responded, “I’m gonna hold back.”
However, this wasn’t an off-the-wall question either. Jamie’s daughter, Ruby Guest had already said that she wanted her mother to appear in the series. Ruby appeared on a One Piece podcast and said that she wanted her mom to play Kureha in the series.
Jamie Lee Curtis loves anime
It turns out that both Jamie and her daughter Ruby are big fans of One Piece. Jamie said that she loved the anime and once sought down Brina Palencia, the voice of Tony Tony Chopper. She then asked him to record a voice message on Ruby’s phone as a birthday present. The two became friends and Brina appeared on Jamie Lee’s podcast.
As for Ruby Guest, she said on the One Piece podcast that her mom was a huge fan of Kureha, the “extremely elderly doctor who works on Drum Island” who also happens to be Tony Tony Chopper’s mentor and adoptive mother. “Since Netflix is doing the live-action adaptation, I would highly recommend her to pull some strings to see if she can [appear on the show],” Guest said.
Netflix ordered the 10-episode season of One Piece back in 2020 and it will finally be ready to air on the streaming service in 2023. Iñaki Godoy will take on the role of Monkey D. Luffy. Mackenyu will play Roronoa Zoro. Other cast members include Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
Netflix has to hope that One Piece is more successful than their last live-action anime adaptation, Cowboy Bebop. That series was canceled after just one season.
