Netflix’s fantasy drama series The Witcher has been renewed for Season 4 and 5 which is currently under production. The series first premiered on December 20, 2019, followed by Season 2 on December 17, 2021. Although there is no official release date for Season 3, fans are excited that the series has been renewed as the Geralt Of Rivia’s story continues.
The Witcher Season 4 And 5 Filming Starts In 2023
This announcement comes months ahead of Season 3 speculated premiere window which is sometime in Summer 2023. As per CBR.com, the writers’ room for the series currently consists of showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, Tania Lotia, Mike Ostrowski, Rae Benjamin, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Haily Hall, Clare Higgins, Troy Dangerfield, and Matthew D’Ambrosio. More so, the team has already started writing the script for the next two seasons. As per estimation, the filming will most likely start in the latter half of 2023 after The Witcher Season 3 makes it to the streaming platform.
Recently, sources reported that Netflix had already greenlit the next two seasons after Season 3. The plan is to film both these seasons back-to-back. However, it is to be noted that Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed the news regarding Seasons 4 and 5. Director Stephen Surjik previously hinted that rough plans for the two seasons had started early in April 2022. He stated, “The writers and producers mapped out Season 4… I don’t know if I’m part of that mapping program, but at least they told me that they’re mapping it out.”
Season 3 Wrapped Up Filming In September
Apart from Season 1, the series attempted to adapt one book per season from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel saga. The first season adapted both Sword of Destiny and The Last Wish from the novel saga. Next, Season 2 adapted Blood Of Elves while Season 3 is expected to adapt Time Of Contempt. This leaves The Tower Of The Shallow and Baptism Of Fire for the next two seasons.
Although The Witcher Season 3 wrapped up filming in September 2022, there has been no news about its release date yet.
When Does The Witcher: Blood Origin Premiere On Netflix?
The makers are currently focusing on establishing The World Of The Witcher and the upcoming live-action spinoff series The Witcher: Blood Origin. This particular spinoff is a prequel that takes place a thousand years prior to the events in The Witcher.
The Netflix spinoff was originally announced as a six-part limited series. However, it will now consist only of four episodes with Minnie Driver’s elven character named Seanchai as the narrator. It is an entirely new character in the series. Not just that, the prequel will introduce several new characters to The Witcher’s expanding universe. The Witcher: Blood Origin premieres on the streaming platform on December 25, 2022.
