Henry Cavill has returned to the set of The Witcher as the show films its third season. Cavill had been away from the set for two weeks, but it looks like things are back on track for the show to return to Netflix early in 2023.

Henry Cavill returns to film The Witcher Season 3

Henry Cavill had to miss the last two weeks of filming The Witcher Season 3 after the actor tested positive for COVID-19. The third season’s shooting schedule was set to wrap up, but this delayed things as Cavill couldn’t return until he tested negative and was no longer contagious.

Redanian Intelligence reported Cavill returned to film after missing two weeks. While he was away, the production team kept filming scenes without Cavill in them, but there was nothing they could do about the scenes with Geralt of Rivia in them but wait for Cavill to return. The delay will cause The Witcher Season 3’s filming to stretch into September.

When will The Witcher Season 3 arrive on Netflix?

A delay of two weeks while waiting for Henry Cavill to test negative shouldn’t affect The Witcher Season 3 release date too much. The show still has a lot of post-production work to do, adding special effects, and that will last the rest of 2022. The Witcher Season 2 arrived on Netflix two years after the first season debuted, but this was because of the pandemic shutdowns and a Henry Cavill injury. Those won’t affect the show this time, and the new season should hit early in 2023.

What will The Witcher Season 3 be about?

The Witcher Season 3 adapts Andrzej Sapkowski’s Time of Contempt, the fourth novel in the series. It is also the second novel in the main Witcher saga. In late 2021, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich talked about the third season and said “It’s a really fun season and it follows a particular book really closely. It has a lot of action, some death.” That book, it turned out, was Time of Contempt (rather than Baptism of Fire).

Time of Contempt threatens war in the realm, as the monarchs of the Northern Kingdoms, following their secret conclave, secretly prepare to create a pretext for war with Nilfgaard. What they don’t know is that the Emperor of Nilfgaard is aware of their plans and preparing his own.

The season will also add some elements from earlier novels, Blood of Elves and Sword of Destiny. The new season of The Witcher not only follows the first two seasons of the series but also follows an anime movie, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. On top of Season 4 with Henry Cavill, there is also more anime coming, including The Witcher: Blood Origin, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, and a rumored family-friendly Witcher project.
