Kathie Lee Gifford has mostly been off the grid since her decision to retire as a daytime talk show host. As TvShowsAce reported, it was a few months ago that she decided to break her silence on what she’s been doing with her life. The former talk show host resurfaced recently because she had some choice words for Kelly Ripa and her memoir, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories. Turns out, she wasn’t exactly happy with what Kelly had to say about her former co-host, the late Regis Philbin.

The former daytime talk show host recently sat down for an interview with Fox 5 personality Rosanna Scotto. According to The Sun, Kathie was NOT pulling any punches when it came to her feelings for Kelly Ripa. The 69-year-old admits she was pretty bothered by the headlines related to Kelly Ripa and Regis.

You know, you never know what’s true and what’s not true. I went, ‘I hope this isn’t true. I just hope it isn’t.’ ‘Cause what’s the point? I don’t get it. I don’t get it.”

Overall, Kathie Lee Gifford wasn’t really willing to put too much stock in what Kelly Ripa had to say about Regis. He was no longer here to defend himself. And, Kathie noted there was no way to know what was true when people were only getting half of the story.

What happened between these three talk show hosts?

Kathie Lee sat beside Regis hosting LIVE together for over a decade. She made the decision to walk away from the show 22 years ago. It wasn’t until a year after she left Regis that Kelly Ripa took over. Kelly Ripa proceeded to host LIVE with Regis Philbin for a decade before he walked away.

During an interview with Larry King in 2017, Regis seemingly confirmed he had no relationship with Kelly Ripa following the show. He claimed they were not friends and she stopped talking to him after he left the show.

He explained: “She got very offended when I left. She thought I was leaving because of her. I was leaving because I was getting older, and it wasn’t right for me anymore.”

In her memoir, Kelly Ripa claimed that she was not allowed to be bigger or stand out more than Regis during her time on the show. She claimed that even in the branding and on the title cards her name had to be smaller.

Kathie Lee Gifford made it clear during the interview that she had not read Kelly Ripa’s memoir. In fact, she didn’t really know if the memoir had even been released yet. She, however, insisted she would not be reading the book. She knew what kind of man Regis was. And, she wasn’t interested in Kelly’s attempt to drag him down.

I just know what Regis was to me. He was 15 years the best partner I could ever have professionally. But he was my friend. We were dear friends and after I left the show … for the next 20 years we became better friends. Dearer friends.”

Kathie Lee Gifford wasn’t shy about admitting she didn’t read the memoir and was just going off of what others were saying about it. She, however, wasn’t happy with anyone who would talk poorly of Regis.
