‘The Voice’ Contestant Forced To Cancel Wedding After Hurricane Ian
On the first week of The Voice this season, one alternative rock singer captured the hearts of the fans and more than one coach. Jay Allen, who adds a little country to his rock, picked up two chair turns from married couple, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
Jay surprisingly chose Gwen to mentor him, and he ended up as an early favorite for the season. However, before he could return for the upcoming live shows, Jay suffered a huge setback in his personal life. Hurricane Ian forced him to cancel his wedding.
The Voice‘s Jay Allen cancels wedding
The Voice had the Blind Auditions a while back, and nothing is live until later in the season. This means that he has already done what he needed to do to get to the present day on the hit reality TV show. With the extra time, he and his fiancé Kylie Morgan had planned their wedding, and he would be married by the time the live shows of The Voice aired.
Sadly, it didn’t happen and Jay had to cancel his wedding. Morgan is also a singer and just had a hit song called “Bridesmaids” that she wrote about her bridesmaids. The couple was supposed to get married on October 1 in Fort Myers, Florida. That was the problem Hurricane Ian hit Fort Myers, and Jay and Kylie had to cancel their wedding.
This led to the couple posting an Instagram video and explaining what happened, with the caption, “Can’t believe this is happening.” In the video itself, Jay said, “first and foremost, please if you would, send down prayers and love to Fort Myers Beach. All the people down there are like a second family to us. Obviously, we were supposed to get married this weekend, but that is the least of our concerns. We are heartbroken for everyone that is losing their homes and their businesses right now.”
He then said that while he wasn’t getting to get married yet, he planned a concert to supply relief to those who lost everything.
Jay Allen on The Voice
Jay Allen had a big story in his Blind Auditions stage of The Voice this season. A country singer, sang Cody Johnson’s country hit “‘Til You Can’t” in his Blind Audition round. However, he had something different about his delivery that made it seem he could be a cross-genre star and that is what Gwen Stefani liked about him.
After his performance, he told his story about losing his mother at 54 to Alzheimer’s Disease. He said he wrote a song in memory of his mother and had raised almost $50 million for Alzheimer’s Disease research with the song. That impressed the judges, and they wanted to hear the song. He sang “Blank Stares” for the judges and Gwen wanted him even more. Cody chose Gwen, to his fiancé’s surprise.
