The thirteenth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who is now a coach to newbie Ncuti Gatwa. Actress Jodie Whittaker, who portrays the mysterious Doctor is now giving extensive advice to her successor. The 40-year-old has been a part of the BBC show since 2018 and plans to ensure that Gatwa does justice to the central character in the show once he takes charge.

Ncuti Gatwa Is The New Doctor Who Starting Season 14

Back in May, it was announced that Gatwa will take over as the Doctor starting Season 14. Talking about the new Doctor Who, Jodie said, “Luckily, enough time had passed between finishing shooting and finding out about the new Doctor for me to just feel pure excitement about it. It’s inspired casting. He’s gonna smash it. Unfortunately for Ncuti, he gave me his number. So he’s getting eight-minute monologues from me on WhatsApp.”

However, Jodie isn’t the only one being replaced on the show. Russel T. Davies will take over as the official showrunner starting Season 14 replacing Chris Chibnall. He has also been credited with reviving this cult, sci-fi drama back in 2005 that continues to date. He served as the showrunner until 2009, after which Steven Moffat took charge.

“Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor, and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds. It’s an honor to work with him, and a hoot, I can’t wait to get started,” said Davies, talking about Gatwa’s acting skills.

Whittaker And Chibnall Had A Three Series Pact

As per CBR.com, Jodie was the first woman to play Doctor in Doctor Who. She & Chibnall joined the series together. However, in July 2021, they announced that they would no longer be a part of the show. Their stint will end after three Doctor Who specials air in Fall 2022. In his statement, Chibnall noted that he & Whittaker together, “made a ‘three series & out’ pact with each other at the start of this once-in-a-lifetime blast.”

Whittaker also announced her departure and said, “In 2017, I opened my glorious gift box of size 13 shoes. I could not have guessed the brilliant adventures, worlds, and wonders I was to see in them. My heart is so full of love for this show, for the team who makes it, for the fans who watch it, and for what it has brought to my life.”

Ncuti Gatwa Will Be The First Gay Doctor In Doctor Who

The special episode, titled ‘The Power Of The Doctor’ will end Whittaker’s journey as the hero and lead to her regeneration as the new Doctor portrayed by Gatwa. While Whittaker was the first woman to be cast in the role, Gatwa is to portray the first gay Doctor. The episode won’t just showcase the Doctor’s regeneration, but will also be full of nostalgia including several fan favorites returning for the special.
