As exclusively revealed by TVLine, John Ross Bowie, who portrayed Barry Kripke in The Big Bang Theory, will be a guest star on the CBS sitcom. He will be cast as Gregory, Dave’s new supervisor at the VA. He will be seen on the episode titled, Welcome to the Art of Negotiation, slated to premiere Monday, October 17.
Bowie’s Comic Skills Earned Him More Scenes
Talking about Bowie’s acting skills and comic timing, The Neighborhood’s co-showrunner Mike Schiff mentioned, “Bowie was really funny [at the table read].”
“He was in three scenes and we said, ‘Let’s give him four! When Cedric reacts to someone else’s sense of humor, it’s very palpable, and as soon as the table read was over, Cedric said, ‘Let’s give that guy more,’” explained fellow executive producer Bill Martin.

Martin and Schiff were brought on as Season 5 showrunners. They previously expressed that they wish to ensure that Dave’s career is taken a bit more seriously. Martin explained, “We’ve got him working at the VA, and we want to go there and make it feel real. He’s going to be a counselor, and we’re going to have a lot of fun with the fact that he’s channeling that do-gooder thing into something that is actually real.”
The Neighborhood’s Dave Will Take Up A New Job At The VA
His previous job as a conflict mediator, as explained by Schiff, was a bit too tough to show on a TV show while ensuring it is funny enough. “His new gig at the VA will make the writers’ lives easier. We have just approved the plans to build an office for him, and it’ll be a place we can go and understand his job a bit more,” he explained.

Bowie was also a part of Chuck Lorre’s the United States Of Al, which was also a CBS sitcom. He was in a recurring role as a psychology professor named Brett. However, the show ran for three seasons and wrapped up in 2019.
