‘GMA’ Ginger Zee Defends Disrespectful Coverage Of Hurricane

Ginger Zee is defending her disrespectful coverage of Hurricane Ian. As TV Shows Ace previously reported, the meteorologist has dealt with a lot of trolls lately. They’ve attacked her over everything from her attire to her weather forecasts. Ginger is one of the most good-natured and positive people on television.

That doesn’t free her from the online hate. Ginger is one of the many weather forecasters who are reporting on the hurricane, including the aftermath. She clapped back at another troll as they asked to “show some respect” to the hurricane victims. Read on to learn more.

GMA meteorologist hit with more criticism

Ginger Zee continues to cover Hurricane Ian as it makes landfall in South Carolina. It previously hit Florida on Wednesday, September 28. She took to Twitter on Friday, September 30 to share the latest death toll in that state. Ginger compared the data to previous hurricanes and listed the total costs for recovery.

While most of her followers appreciated the information, some felt it was distasteful. One troll slammed Ginger Zee for disrespecting the victims. Some argue that natural disasters shouldn’t be turned into news stories. The criticism stems from the media making a spectacle out of the tragedies.

One user wrote: “Come on, we need to stop broadcasting how many deaths and destruction there were from these unfortunate events. Let’s show some respect to the family and loved ones.”

“How is this not respectful? It’s important information,” Ginger Zee fired back. “We aren’t putting up names and addresses — this is an impact of the storm. Human life. Very important!”

Some of her followers took to the tweet to defend her. They argued that she’s sharing that someone’s loved one could’ve ended up hurt in the storm. Ginger returned to Twitter to share the updated information with her followers. She is not backing down from talking about the hurricane.

Ginger Zee follows Hurricane Ian

Ginger Zee will continue to follow Hurricane Ian as it makes its way up the eastern coast. On Friday, the storm pounded south coastal South Carolina. It destroyed piers and flooded streets. Hurricane Ian left devastation in Florida. It trapped thousands of residents in their homes and left 27 people dead.

Per The Associated Press, it’s estimated to be one of the costliest hurricanes to hit the U.S. Hurricane Ian first hit Cuba before it made its way onto U.S. soil. The aftermath of the Category 1 hurricane is making its way up the Northeastern coast with its direct path to North Carolina and Virginia.
