A Today Show host nearly drowned during a dangerous segment. Journalism is a risky profession. Some of them deal with near-fatal situations, such as attacks, intimidation, and scary stunts. Anchor Kerry Sanders struggled to keep his head above water as he reported in the middle of the ocean.

He dove into the waters in Florida to talk about the local sea turtles. Kerry wanted to put them back into the ocean. The hair-raising stunt took place during Thursday’s live broadcast. It started when co-hosts Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Hoda Kotb, and Savannah Guthrie talked about sea turtles before turning the segment over to Kerry.

Kerry Sanders struggles in rocky waters

The Today host started his report as he sat on a boat on the coast of Riviera Beach, Florida. Kerry was there to help release the sea turtles back into the water. He showed viewers the turtles, which were kept in a container until their release. Kerry jumped into the ocean and joined the two other people who were helping out.

The news segment started out with a report about how climate change caused most sea turtles to be born female, which is an issue for the species. However, as the segment went on, Today fans were more concerned about Kerry’s safety. He struggled to keep his head up above the rocky waters. As he interviewed the two other people, he held onto a flotation device.

It didn’t even help him. Kerry still couldn’t keep his head above the water. So, he moved to the side of the boat. The Today Show host almost lost his flotation device. If he had lost it, he could’ve drowned. Nothing else was mentioned about the dangerous segment after it ended.

Today Show host bragged about swimming with sharks

This segment wasn’t as big of a deal for Kerry Sanders. He’s bragged about swimming with sharks. In his July 2022 article, the Today host recalled a time when he encountered one in shallow waters while in Grand Cayman. Kerry saw it heading his way.

“As I watched the shark disappear in the water, I had proof positive of what I’d long been told by marine biologists: ‘Sharks don’t hunt humans,'” Kerry wrote. “I also realized something else: That shark was really only about 12 feet long. Big, yes — but not what I was certain I had seen in the moment.”

The Today Show host previously did an underwater interview with a scientist. During that time, a bull shark approached him. Kerry’s also gone on adventures in the Atlantic, Papua New Guinea, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, and even in the Oklahoma Aquarium. The sea turtles segment is nothing for this daredevil.
