Christine Brown Admits Never Legally Married To Kody
Kody and Christine Brown broke up well over a year ago. However, Sister Wives fans are just now watching it now all play out onscreen. Although Kody has four wives, he can ever only legally be married to one of them. That’s one reason his split from Christine was largely pretty simple — they were never legally married.
Seasoned fans know that Kody was first married to Meri. They later legally divorced so he could marry Robyn and legally adopt her children. Meri and Kody continued to have a spiritual union after that, even though he said he no longer had an interest in living as man and wife.
But now, in new clips released by TLC on their official Facebook page, Christine admits her marriage to Kody was never legally binding. In other words, “divorce” isn’t technically the right term to use here. Keep reading for more details.
Christine Brown has decided enough is enough
In the new teaser, Christine admits that she and Kody would be celebrating 26 years together — if she was choosing to stay. The thing is, she and Kody never had a legal marriage. It was all just a spiritual union deemed valid by their church.
But because it was never a legal marriage, Christine admits that she isn’t quite sure when it’s all technically over. She says at present, she does not consider herself to be married to Kody any longer. She also no longer considers herself a sister wife.
In other words, the marriage seems to be over because Christine says it is. And legally, that’s good enough.
Robyn and Kody Brown seemed bound and determine to get Christine to stick around, even if they aren’t very nice to her. But after 26 years, Christine is also no longer interested in pursuing plural marriage with them. On the show, she confessed she realized that her departure was going to ruffle a lot of feathers. But ultimately, it was something she really needed to do.
What’s life like after the breakup?
Breaking up definitely isn’t easy. But the good news is that Kody and Christine’s children are mostly grown and out of the house. Twelve-year-old Truely is the only one left at home. Christine also said on the show that Truely never sees Kody as it is, so life wouldn’t change too much for her.
In the present, Christine is living life to the fullest. At the moment, she and Janelle took a few of the kids and flew off for a fun tropical vacation in Hawaii. Kody and Robyn haven’t been spotted in any of the vacation photos. Without a doubt, the family is probably having a better time without them there.
Don’t forget that there will be a new episode of Sister Wives out this Sunday night. Tune into TLC at 10 PM eastern time and see what happens next during this chapter of the Brown family’s lives.
