‘Today’ Carson Daly Shares Update On Grueling Surgery
Today host Carson Daly shared an update on his grueling surgery. Last month, the 49-year-old underwent Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion surgery. He’s suffered from lower back pain ever since his snowmobile accident in the 90s. Carson’s doctor recommended invasive surgery to help ease the pain.
He admitted that it was no joke. Even though the sarcastic television personality loves to crack jokes on the Today Show, Carson got serious when he talked about his health. He’s always been open and honest about his mental and physical health on the talk show and on social media. Read on to see the latest update.
Carson Daly shares update with fans
On Friday, September 16, Carson Daly shared an x-ray of his spine on Instagram. He included a post-op update after undergoing his second surgery in three months. The Voice emcee joked that it was an “actual X-Ray photo” and not an image he Googled. Carson thanked the doctor who worked on him.
The x-ray appears to show a spacer in his spine. Per MedTronic, a spacer is an invasive implant that increases the height between the interspinous processes in the lower spine. Carson joked that it looked like something out of the nativity scene. He also shared how his first check-up went since having surgery.
“Hello. Quick update — I had my 1st post spine fusion surgery check-up today with @andrewhechtmd & everything looks great!” Carson Daly captioned the post. “Also, we found the missing pieces from our nativity scene!”
Fans took to the comment section to send him well wishes. Others got a kick out of his joke. They admitted that it did look like something that you would find in the nativity.
One user wrote: “Sending prayers well it is funny but also cool looking. ππππβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈππππ”
Another added: “I literally thought the same thing, is that part of a nativity? Hahaha, then read your captionβ¦ ππππ”
Speaks to Today Show co-hosts
Carson Daly also shared an update with his Today Show co-hosts earlier this week. He chatted with Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker virtually about his chronic pain. During the interview, Carson admitted that the surgery and recovery haven’t been fun. However, he feels much better than he’s ever felt.
“The first week was tough, just getting over the surgical pain,” Carson Daly said. “I’ve been in the downstairs bedroom, kind of avoiding the stairs.”
The television host has forced himself to get up every so often and take walks. He joked that he feels like Forrest Gump except that he can’t run just yet. Each day, Carson Daly gets “stronger” and he’s ready to get back to work, but he still “can’t put my pants on or tie my shoes.” The recovery will take several weeks to months.
