Ryan Reynolds Public Colonoscopy Might Have Saved His Life
Its not everyday that one of the world’s most beloved celebrities has a colonoscopy and invites the entire world to watch. However, that is what Ryan Reynolds did to pay off a bet. It also might have saved his life.
Here is what we know about Ryan Reynolds’ public colonoscopy.
Ryan Reynolds has colonoscopy on camera
Once guys reach a certain age, it is time to head to the doctor for a very invasive medical procedure. This is a colonoscopy. In this procedure, a doctor sends a small camera up the person’s butt and checks to make sure everything is okay up there. It is often an embarrassing procedure, so it came as a shock when Ryan Reynolds did it and allowed the world to watch.
On top of the camera in his butt, he also had cameras in the room filming the entire thing. The reason the 45-year-old actor did this was to pay off a bet with his buddy Rob McElhenney. Ryan told Rob that if he learned to speak Welsh, he would have a colonoscopy and video the entire event. Rob learned Welsh and Ryan paid off his part of the bet.
Ryan posted this video on his YouTube page on Tuesday and it has already picked up almost 400,000 views and over 16,000 likes so far. In the video, Rob and Ryan explain the bet and then Ryan takes fans into the operating room for the colonoscopy. What happened next shook up Ryan, and might have allowed him to save other people’s lives.
Ryan Reynolds had a polyp removed after colonoscopy
“I would never normally have any medical procedure put on camera. It’s not every day that you can raise awareness for something that will most definitely save lives. That is enough motivation for me to let you in on a camera being shoved up my a**,” Ryan said in the video.
However, the life he saved might have been his own. After the colonoscopy ended, the doctor approached Ryan to give him the results. It turned out that this was Ryan’s first colonoscopy and the doctor found a polyp. The doctor explained he cut it off with the snare and it is now gone. This could have led to cancer if left undetected.
“I was able to find an extremely subtle polyp that was on the right side of your colon,” Dr. Lapook said. “This was potentially life-saving for you. I am not kidding and I am not being overdramatic.” He went on to explain that this is why men of a certain age have regular colonoscopies because Ryan had no symptoms. With someone as famous as Ryan Reynolds, this could hopefully push some men on the fence into their doctor’s offices to schedule the procedure for themselves.
