Netflix Original Sci-Fi Movie ‘The Adam Project’: Trailer, What We Know

Ryan Reynolds is reuniting with producer Shawn Levy for a Netflix Original movie, The Adam Project. The all-star cast also features Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner, who have worked with Levy before, and Zoe Saldana. The new Netflix Original sci-fi movie is directed by Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy and was written by Jonathan Topper. The project is the second movie that Levy has directed with Ryan Reynolds in the lead role. Fans will remember the recent video-game spoof movie, Free Guy, that released in theaters and streaming services in December 2020.

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner also star and have worked with the director before. However, this is the first time Zoe Saldana has worked with Levy.

Plot of the sci-fi movie

The plot of The Adam Project revolves around 13-year-old Adam Reed. He is still grieving the sudden death of his father the year before. One evening, he walks into his garage to find a wounded pilot hiding there. It turns out the mysterious pilot is an older version of Adam from the future, where time travel is in its infancy. He has risked everything to travel back in time on a secret mission.

The older and younger versions of Adam must embark on an adventure into the past to find their father. Together, they must set things right and save the world. Working together, they both come to terms with the loss of their father and get a chance to heal the wounds that have shaped them.

Ironically, adding to the challenges of their mission, the two Adams find they don’t really like each other very much. They realize that if they are to save the world, they will first need to figure out how to get along together.

Cast of The Adam Project

As mentioned before, Ryan Reynolds plays the role of the adult Adam Reed. The Adam Project is his fourth Netflix Original movie. Up until now, the Canadian actor has starred in Free Guy, 6 Underground and Red Notice. Meanwhile, he will be producing and starring in the adaptation of the video game Dragon’s Lair.

While her role is yet to be announced, Zoe Saldana also stars in The Adam Project. She has previously been seen in Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Trek. Mark Ruffalo is also starring in an as-yet-unannounced role and is known for his appearance in Spotlight, The Kids Are All Right and Avengers Assemble. Jennifer Garner, of Alias, 13 Going on 30 and Juno fame also stars. Meanwhile, Catherine Keener of Being John Malkovich, Capote and The 40-Year-Old Virgin also plays a role. Lucie Guest, known for Hypnotic, Orphan Black and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina also stars.

Alex Mallari Jr. plays Christos and is known for his roles in Ginny & Georgia, Dark Matter and Workin’ Moms. Meanwhile, Braxton Bjerken plays Ray Dollarhyde and has starred in The House With a Clock on its Walls, Good Girls and Girl in the Basement. The role of Derek is played by Ben Wilkinson, who is known for Deadpool, Grave Encounters and Stargate SG-1.

Debuting in the role of the young Adam is Walker Scobell, with another version played by Jessica Bodenarek (Gabby Duran & The Unsittables). On top of this, Kasra Wong plays Chuck and is known for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and Under Wraps. Last, but by no means least, Esther Ming Li plays Sophie. She is known for her roles in Snowpiercer, The Twilight Zone and Under Wraps.

Production status of the Netflix Original movie

According to What’s on Netflix, filming of The Adam Project wrapped on March 8, 2021, and most of the filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Unfortunately, Netflix has yet to announce a release date. However, as production is now complete, we can expect The Adam Project to drop on the streamer in the spring of 2022.
