Hulu’s sitcom Maggie premiered on July 6, 2022, and immediately became a hit among fans. With a 7.1/10 rating on IMDb, the series is sure a big name by now. However, it seems like the future doesn’t look bright for this romantic comedy series. On Friday, it was confirmed that the streaming service isn’t renewing the series for a second season.
Maggie Stars Rebecca Rittenhouse As The Lead Character
The news comes just two months after the premiere of Season 1. The series is based on a short film of the same name created by Tim Curcio. With a total of 13 episodes in the first season, it stars Rebecca Rittenhouse as Maggie. She was also a part of The Mindy Project. The story is about a young woman that struggles to cope with her life while understanding her psychic abilities. Although Maggie can see everyone’s future, her own present has been a complete mess.
As per Comicbook, the series was originally meant to air on ABC. However, it ultimately moved to Hulu in January 2022. The Hulu series also stars:
- Nichole Sakura as Louise
- David Del Rio as Ben
- Chloe Bridges as Jessie
- Leonardo Nam as Dave
- Angelique Cabral as Amy
- Ray Ford as Angel
- Chris Elliott as Jack
- Kerri Kenney-Silver as Maria
Rebecca Rittenhouse Talks About Maggie’s Future
The series was created by Justin Adler of the Life In Pieces fame. In an interview, Rittenhouse discussed the potential for Season 2 before the official announcement came in confirming the cancellation. She said, “I would love to see her use her powers maybe in a different way. Maybe she thinks it’s a better way to use them, but maybe it’s ultimately not a better way, I don’t know. Maybe she tries to play matchmaker and that could blow up in a fun way. It’s all about putting her in uncomfortable situations.”
Talking about how she landed the role, Rittenhouse further added, “I heard about it, it was floating around town. Then it came to me and it was spring of 2021, and I just felt like it was such a breath of fresh air.”
Will Some Other Network Renew The Series In The Future?
Maggie is a psychic navigating through the topsy-turvy dating world. Her gift gives her access to the future of her clients, parents, friends, and even random street folks. However, things start to take a turn in her life after she starts seeing glimpses of her very own future after meeting a stranger. Not just that, her romantic life gets all the more complicated with so much going on. It is hard to fall in love when one knows what the future holds for the relationship.
However, fans might not get a chance to know what’s in store for Maggie now that the show has been canceled. Do you think some other network might pick up the show and bring it back for fans? Share your thoughts in the comments!
