‘The Ancient Magus’ Bride’ Anime Renewed For Season 2
Anime fans with an affinity for dark fantasy, mystery, and the supernatural would love to know that The Ancient Magus’ Bride is returning for a second season. This Japanese manga is written and illustrated by Kore Yamazaki. Plus, it’s serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden magazine. In North America, the manga is licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment.
Studio Kafka Returns With The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2
The manga series also received a prequel anime before it became a full-blown anime series. More so, the three-part OVA anime was produced by Wit Studio. In October 2017, the manga was adapted into an anime series and Season 1 ran until March 2018. Now, the series has been renewed for a second season that is slated to premiere in April 2023. As of now, no date has been confirmed by Studio Kafka.

The upcoming season will air on BS11 and Tokyo MX and will also stream in Japan on Amazon Prime Video and Hikari TV. Season 2 will focus on the Gakuin (College) arc of the manga that launched in May 2018. Directed by Kazuaki Terasawa with Kohei Tokuoka as the chief animation director, the anime stars:
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Chise
- Kouki Uchiyama as Ruth
- Ryota Takeuchi as Elias Ainsworth
- Ana Endo as Silky
- Satoshi Hino as Mikhail Renfred
- Mutsumi Tamura as Alice
The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 1 To Re-Air In October
The series’ scriptwriters are Yoko Yonaiyama alongside Aya Takaha and Chiaki Nishinaka. Among the returning crew is Hirotaka Kato as the character designer and Junichi Matsumoto as the music composer. As per Anime News Network, fans that haven’t yet watched Season 1 can do so when the series re-airs starting in October.

The latest anime in this franchise is the three-episode OAD The Ancient Magus’ Bride- The Boy From The West & the Knight Of The Blue Storm.
Crunchyroll To Stream The OAD Project Worldwide Except Asia
However, the project also came along with limited editions of the manga’s volumes 16, 17, and 18. While Volume 16 shipped in September 2021, Volume 17 shipped on March 10. The upcoming Volume 18 will be available for fans on September 9, 2022. This OAD series is the first part of the upcoming series. As of now, Crunchyroll has the license to stream the OAD project worldwide except for Asia. The manga has more than 10 million copies in circulation at the time of writing.

The manga’s official synopsis reads as:
“Hatori Chise has lived a life full of neglect and abuse, devoid of anything resembling love. Far from the warmth of family, she has had her share of troubles and pitfalls. Just when all hope seems lost, a fateful encounter awaits her. When a man with the head of a beast, wielding strange powers, obtains her through a slave auction, Chise’s life will never be the same again.
The man is a “magus,” a sorcerer of great power, who decides to free Chise from the bonds of captivity. The magus then makes a bold statement: Chise will become his apprentice–and his bride!”
