Yoshifumi Tozuka’s ‘Undead Unluck’ Snags Anime TV Deal
A perfect mix of comedy, adventure, and supernatural elements, Undead Unluck is a popular Japanese manga written by Yoshifumi Tozuka. After being serialized by Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since January 2020, the manga is now confirmed for an anime adaptation. This anime by David Production is slated to premiere in 2023.
Undead Unluck Features Fuuko And Andy As The Protagonists
After weeks of rumors about the possibility of an anime adaptation, the project is finally under production. David Production is the very same production house that oversees the popular anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Anime TV’s twitter handle announced the official anime adaptation with key visuals.

The anime features Fuuko Izumo who can be identified by her beanie alongside her buffed friend Andy who flaunts silver hair & chest tattoos on full display. In the key visual it might seem like the duo is an unsuspecting pair on the outside. However, manga fans know how well they have been paired. This pair is no less than a stroke of genius by the writer.
Undead Unluck’s Fuuko Craves For A Passionate Romance
The official synopsis for the manga reads:
“Tired of inadvertently killing people with her special ability Unluck, Fuuko Izumo sets out to end it all. But when she meets Andy, a man who longs for death but can’t die, she finds a reason to live and he finds someone capable of giving him the death he’s been longing for.”

“All Fuuko wants is a passionate romance like the one in her favorite shojo manga. Unfortunately, her Unluck ability makes that impossible. But just as Fuuko hits rock bottom, Andy sweeps her off her feet-literally! Now she’s become Andy’s unwilling test subject as he works to find a way to trigger a stroke of Unluck big enough to kill him for good. However, when the pair discovers a secret organization is hunting them, it puts Andy’s burial plans on hold,” the synopsis concludes.
The Union Leader Juiz’s Negator Ability Is Anti-Justice
Fuuko and Andy are the prime characters in the anime series. However, there are several important characters that add into the beauty of this story. The Union’s leader is Juiz who with her negator ability allows her targets to enact just the opposite of their sense of justice by simply looking at them. As per Anime News Network, she has also successfully tamed the UMA Move which is the Union’s prime transportation mode.

After an unbelievable arc, it is revealed that the world is now stuck in a time loop & she keeps her memories by using an artifact called the ‘Ark’. Another critical character is Shen, who is a Chinese martial artist with the Untruth Negator ability. His subordinate Mui doesn’t have any abilities. But, he more than makes up for it with the help of martial arts and artifacts.
