According to Anime News Network, voice actor Motomu Kiyokawa was confirmed dead at the age of 87 by Haikyō talent agency. The talent agency revealed Motomu’s cause of death was pneumonia on August 17th. Loved ones of the voice after opted to have a private funeral to say goodbye.

Per IMDb, the late voice after was born on April 9, 1935, in Tokyo, Japan. In his 20’s, he joined up with the Haiyuza Theatre Company. He proceeded to sign on with the Haikyō talent agency in 1968. With a little over 100 credits to his name, he worked as both a voice actor and a stage actor.

What He Was Best Known For

Motomu Kiyokawa was an incredible voice actor. He was best known for voicing the character of Kozo Fuyutsuki. He voiced the character for the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. He also voiced the same character in the films Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth and Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion. He even reprised his role as Kozo for several additional movies.

Motomu does have a lot of other memorable roles on his resume including Walter in Hellsing, Tippy in Is the Order a Rabbit?, Tem Rey in Mobile Suit Gundam, Isamu Kihara in A Lull in the Sea, and Norman Burg in The Big O.

News of Motomu Kiyokawa’s death broke about four hours ago. Some fans noted that given his age, this is something they had been bracing themselves for a while.
