‘Today’: Savannah Guthrie Proves She’s In Charge At NBC?
Is Today star Savannah Guthrie really calling all the shots at NBC? It’s been apparent to viewers for quite some time that the hostess doesn’t really seem to get along well with her cohost, Hoda Kotb. Plenty of viewers wonder why NBC executives haven’t stepped in and said something before now.
But after a recent stunt, Savannah Guthrie may actually have more power on the set than viewers initially anticipated. So what exactly happened?
Savannah Guthrie reportedly made a very calculated move this week
Viewers that caught the Today show on Thursday heard Savannah Guthrie confess that she arrived to the studio just 20 minutes before her segment went live. She blamed her tardiness on oversleeping. The 50-year-old anchor would hardly be the first person to oversleep and show up late, but Page Six reports that it’s all part of Savannah’s master plan.
“This would never happen. She is literally the $40 million dollar woman,” a Today insider allegedly told Page Six. “She is showing them who is the boss and that they can’t do the show without her. When Savannah doesn’t show up for work the entire force of NBC News is dispatched to find out where she is.”
The insider went on to say that there are dozens of people waiting for Savannah Guthrie to show up on set every day, including hair and makeup people. They would all notice if she was even just 10 minutes late to work, let alone several hours.
“There is always a morning meeting ahead of the show, and if she isn’t there at that point, we’re talking about staff in hysterics and someone being called to break down her door,” the insider reported.
If the insiders are to be believed, then it seems like Savannah Guthrie definitely knew what she was doing.
What’s the feud all about anyway?
Neither Savannah Guthrie nor Hoda Kotb have publically addressed the alleged feud between them. But viewers can’t help but notice the onscreen tension between the cohosts. There are a wide variety of rumors about the feud out there, including one that says Hoda broke Savannah’s trust in the past.
“Savannah and Hoda are very tense around each other. Savannah was furious when Hoda was brought into the first hour of the show, she wants to be the queen bee, and flipped out on producers,” another insider reportedly told Page Six.
Insiders allege that Hoda Kotb is incredibly personable on set and everyone loves her. They believe Savannah is actually a little jealous of her cohost and wants to show everyone that she’s in charge.
