Shania Twain’s First Marriage To Mutt Lange
In the Netflix documentary, Just A Girl, Shania opens up about her love life. This started back in 1993, Shania had released her first album and was starting to make a name for herself. Enter Robert John “Mutt” Lange. He is a Zambian-born, record producer and composer.
The producer was long considered the “sixth man” of the hugely successful metal band, Def Leppard, creating their sound and co-writing a few songs. The now 73-year-old was also famous at that time for working with AC/DC.
It turns out, he loved country music and in 1993 contacted Twain. He heard her first album and wanted to work with her. The two spent six months talking on the phone before actually meeting in person.
Therefore, to the rest of the world, it seemed like an unusual match when it was announced that they married in December 1993.
Lange was also instrumental in her successful rise. Along with Shania, Mutt co-wrote and produced some of her biggest hits such as “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “You’re Still The One,” and “Any Man of Mine.”
When she was not touring, the very private couple lived in Switzerland, near Montreux. In August 2001, the couple had their only child, a son named Aja.
Their lives seemed idyllic, cultivating bliss and creating music. That is, until the shocking announcement in May, 2008, that the couple was separated.
