The rom-com anime genre gained prominence this year with several series released and many under production. From Rent-A-Girlfriend to A Couple of Cuckoos, several breakout series from current and previous years surprisingly aren’t a part of the action-shonen anime genre. This suggests that anime viewers are just as interested in shows that offer light-hearted, hilarious stories with memorable characters.

However, every show comes to an end, and viewers crave more. They look for more, if not a similar story, but at least something with a similar theme.

The central character, Tomo Aizawa, is in all sense a tomboy with her boyish looks & rugged behavior. As described by Crunchyroll, the series is a Rom-com for the youth with its prime narrative surrounding Tomo & her childhood friend, Junichirou. If fans go by a standard anime Rom-com rule, one would assume that the plot twist in this one would be her friend falling for her.

However, it is just the opposite in this case. This love story revolves around Tomo and her feelings for her childhood friend, who sees her as more of a man unbeknownst to her real feelings.

Given this interesting plotline, the series is sure to bring back memories of Ouran High School Host Club. Tomo’s character gives off a Haruhi vibe. However, unlike Haruhi Fujioka, this anime’s central character is boyish by choice.

When Is The Anime Rom-Com Set For Release?

Going by the trailer, Tomo-Chan is a boyish girl & her friend Juni is a dense boy. It would be an interesting plot to see the roles reversed after so long. Even though the lead character is a tomboy, she still wishes to prove to her best friend that she is a girl. So, one might assume that she would spend a lot of time trying to get in touch with her feminine side. She might also try and show it off to Junichirou to win his love.

Apart from these two central characters, the show’s supporting cast also features Misuzu Gundou, another one of Tomo’s childhood friends & Carol Olston, a classmate. No other cast members have yet been revealed in the trailer.

The manga’s anime adaptation was announced in July 2022. However, fans will have to wait until next year to binge on the anime series. The show will be directed by Hitoshi Nanba and is set to release by January 2023. It will also be available for fans with an English dub on Crunchyroll.
