Bruno Tonioli Reveals Why He Chose ‘DWTS’ Over ‘Strictly’
Bruno Tonioli will once again return to Dancing With The Stars this fall. The long-time judge actually confirmed he would also permanently give up his judging seat on Strictly Come Dancing to dedicate more time to DWTS. But there’s actually more to the story here.
Recently, Bruno admitted that it wasn’t just a matter of preference. Keep reading to learn more about the truth behind his decision to leave Strictly.
Bruno Tonioli had to make a tough choice between his hosting gigs
For fans that don’t already know, Strictly Come Dancing is the British version of Dancing With The Stars. For many years, Bruno Tonioli was a staple of both programs. He generally flew back and forth between Los Angeles and England to film both shows.
But when the pandemic happened, he had to make a choice. Bruno chose to film DWTS and temporarily step away from Strictly until the world was in a safer spot.
But now, it seems like the temporary change has become permanent. Bruno Tonioli announced earlier this year that his time on Strictly is over and he’s only filming Dancing With The Stars now. But why?
According to The Daily Mail, Bruno just can’t handle the flight schedules any longer. The dancer still has a lot of life and pep in him, but he is turning 67 years old this year. He just wasn’t willing to put the stress on his body by flying so frequently.
“I just couldn’t do the flying anymore,” Bruno told the publication. He revealed that he made frequent flights between London and LA in a single week to film both shows. “I don’t know how I survived that schedule. To be honest, it’s a miracle.”
Strictly Come Dancing fans will be sad to lose Bruno, but DWTS audiences are thrilled that he’ll return for Season 31.
Major changes come to DWTS this fall
Dancing With The Stars Season 31 kicks off on Disney+ starting September 19, 2022. The platform shift wasn’t wildly popular with fans and it’s pretty widely believed that the show will only continue to lose viewers. The show’s days may possibly be numbered.
But even so, there’s a lot to look forward to ahead of Season 31. The four judges from Season 30 will return, as well as Tyra Banks as hostess. However, this year Alfonso Ribeiro will join Tyra onstage as her cohost.
Publically, both Tyra and Alfonso have been extremely professional and cordial. However, things may not be so civil behind the scenes. Rumor has it that Tyra is livid that she has to share the stage. Hopefully, everyone will come together to pull off a great show.
