Bachelorette couple call it quits less than a year after engagement
Another one bites the dust. Add season 17 Bachelorette’s Michelle Young and Nayte Olukoya to the dating show’s long list of failed relationships.
After weeks of speculation, they confirmed their split with separate posts on Instagram.
The couple got engaged during the Season 17 finale. During the After the Final Rose special, the network gifted them a huge down payment for a home.
It’s unclear what happens to the hefty down payment now.
What went wrong?
Both Nayte and Michelle’s respective statements were vague about what caused the split.
“I’m struggling to say that Nayte and I will be going our separate ways,” Michelle wrote.
Nayte’s statement confirmed the split: “Michelle and I are going to move forward separately.” However, they seemed to be feeling wildly different emotions.
“I’m deeply hurting and will need time and space to work through this heartbreak,” Michelle vulnerably shared.
Her former fiance simply wrote, “Hearts are heavy, emotions are high and we are dealing with this the best way we can.”
While it’s unclear what went wrong, many Bachelor Nation fans weren’t surprised. Split rumors have been following the couple for months.
In fact, Michelle just took to her Instagram Stories in May to shut down the rumors. She was spotted without her engagement ring, but claimed a friend of hers simply asked to try it on.
However, a few days ago, she was once again spotted without her ring, which seemingly prompted the split confirmation.
Shortly after their engagement, the couple detailed plans for a summer wedding. But as time went on, the wedding seemed less likely to happen.
Fans also thought it was strange that the engaged couple never made moves to live together.
Nayte Olukoya disses Bachelor Nation fans?
In the hours after the split news went public, Nayte took to his Twitter to share a terse message to Bachelor Nation fans.
“Y’all really think you have me figured out, eh? This is nuts.”
He later deleted the tweet, but Bachelor Instagram fan account @bachelorettewindmill snagged a screenshot.
Nayte doesn’t directly address anyone, but appears to be reacting to some of the social media comments regarding the split.
For her part, Michelle Young has remained silent on social media following her post confirming the split.
