The newest Marvel Cinematic Universe show Ms. Marvel has been airing its first few episodes on Disney+ recently. The show is a landmark for the MCU. Ms. Marvel AKA Kamala Khan is one of the newest Marvel superheroes in the comics. She’s also one of the first Muslim superheroes we’ve ever seen.
And on top of that, the show is already breaking records. With only a single episode out as of right now, Ms. Marvel is already showing its success. Could this wind up being the most popular MCU show to date?
Ms. Marvel‘s Record
In a surprise to many, Ms. Marvel currently holds the highest Rotten Tomatoes rating of any MCU show. It is right now sitting at a whopping 97% with critics. That’s nearly perfect. The audience score is significantly lower at 85% as of right now. That’s still high. But it has the show being beaten out by others like Wandavision, Loki, and Daredevil. Three shows that are thought of as some of the best the MCU has to offer.
Still, it’s impressive that Ms. Marvel is currently in the running with big shows like that. There’s only one episode out, though, so ratings are still subject to change as the season moves forward. Ms. Marvel has been controversial among comics fans for some time now. The controversy stems from the MCU’s decision to change a core aspect of the character. That core aspect being her superpower.
This MCU show marks the first time a major hero has had complete power replacement. Gone are the giant fists and flexible body of Kamala Khan in the comics. The reason given being that MCU producers are hesitant to introduce multiple characters with similar powers. Those characters being both Ms. Marvel and also Mr. Fantastic. Mr. Fantastic made an appearance in the recent MCU film Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.
Changing The MCU
Despite the controversy, Marvel seems to be pulling out another successful show for Disney+. If the remaining episodes can continue the quality of the first, fans may soon adjust to Kamala’s character changes. At the end of the day, many are simply happy to see the representation this character brings. Regardless of what her abilities happen to be at the end of the day. Kamala Khan is already set to have a big future in the MCU. After the first season of her solo series, there’s going to be a team-up series simply titled The Marvels. It’s going to see Kamala team up with one of the MCU’s most powerful characters Captain Marvel. A hero who already has a reference in Kamala’s solo series.
Episode 1 of Ms. Marvel is out on Disney+ right now. New episodes will be hitting the platform every Wednesday.
