The horror world has been rejoicing at all of Netflix’s new announcements this week. From the new Castlevania series that’s sure to bring the blood, guts, and monsters. To Junji Ito’s upcoming horror anime that’s sure to be one of the all-time scariest. There’s no shortage of things to scare the audiences that seek those kinds of thrills out coming soon. And there’s one more thing that’s as unique as it’s sure to be terrifying.
An anthology horror show from legendary Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro. And Del Toro isn’t the only big name coming with the project.
Cabinet Of Curiosities
The name of the show is Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities. The trailer came out recently on Youtube and all of Netflix’s social media accounts. There isn’t much detail given about the show’s actual content. All we know is it’s a horror anthology led by Guillermo with plenty of other talent on board. The trailer shows a hodgepodge of various shots meant to incite as much curiosity as it does uneasiness. But it doesn’t lead to much detail about what will actually be going on in any of the episodes. We know a few of the episodes are from short stories written by Del Toro himself. A few are even said to be from H.P. Lovecraft short stories.
But other than that we do get a long list of the directors and actors coming along with the series. One of the big standout names among the actors is Eric Andre. He’s been exploding with popularity as an out-of-the-box comedian in recent years. His surreal pranks and anti-humor style of comedy have made him a popular name with the younger generation. This is the first time he’s ever taken a step entirely out of comedy and into something as purely dark as horror. On top of that are other huge actors like Crispin Glover, Andrew Lincoln, and even Rupert Grint.
Another Horrific Notch For Del Toro
Guillermo Del Toro is not purely a horror director. But his horror films have stuck out as some of the best films in general of recent years. Films like Pan’s Labyrinth, Cronos, and Crimson Peak. He even won best picture at the Oscars for his film The Shape Of Water. So anything with his stamp on it like this series is something worth building excitement over.
Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities has no specific release date as of right now. The trailer only says “coming in 2022”. It seems extremely likely with content like this that we’ll be seeing a release date around Halloween. But even if not, we’ll still be getting it sometime this year.
