‘Jeopardy!’ Blunders For Host Mayim Bialik & Fan Favorite Ryan Long
The latest episodes of Jeopardy! showed costly blunders for host Mayim Bialik and fan-favorite Ryan Long. Viewers noticed when the Philadelphia native made two mistakes. This made him apologize to a major TV star. Mayim has held down the fort for the past few weeks.
Fans are looking forward to his return in July. For a while now, Mayim has been feeling the pressure. She noticed the backlash she received over her hosting abilities. Fans have also been closely watching current champ Ryan Long, a rideshare driver. Find out what happened and what caused him to apologize.
Is Ryan Long caving to the pressure?
So far, Ryan Long has won 12 consecutive games on Jeopardy! With record breakers and massive amounts of money comes a lot of pressure. Though Ryan knows a lot of topics, he is human. He made two human errors in the latest episode. He apologized to an entire sports organization and a major star after making those mistakes on Monday, May 31.
In the recent episode, Ryan stumbled on many of his answers. He also wanted to apologize to Jeopardy! fans for his mistakes. At the start of the game show, the returning champ was asked to associate a sport with the clue that read, “Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis.” Ryan’s response was “female tennis.” The contestant realized his mistake and changed it to “tennis,” which was the correct response.
Ryan took to Twitter to address his mistake. He explained to fans what happened. Sometimes his mouth speaks before his brain does. He realized his mistake, which caused him to change his answer.
“Ok, so a few things. ‘Female tennis,'” Ryan tweeted after the Jeopardy! episode aired. “I wasn’t thinking, my brain is in hyperspecific mode. No offense meant.”
However, he made another mistake during Final Jeopardy. The clue read, “On the death of this trailblazing man, friend & mentor, Oprah said, ‘For me, the greatest of the ‘great trees’ has fallen.'”
Fellow Jeopardy! contestants Mandy and Steve guessed politician and civil rights leader John Lewis, who passed away in 2020. Rya guessed ’80s talk show host Phil Donahue. Bialik informed him that was the correct answer.
She then noted, “Fortunately, Phil Donahue is still with us.” All three contestants were wrong. The correct answer was the late legendary actor Sidney Poitier.
Jeopardy! champ apologizes to former talk show host
Ryan Long felt terrible about his huge blunder. He took to Twitter again to apologize to the talk show host. He didn’t mean to think that Phil Donahue passed away.
“And I definitely owe Mr. Donahue an apology. When you see me chuckle is when I remember that Mr. Donahue is alive and well.”
Ryan wasn’t the only one making mistakes. Mayim changed the score for one of the players during the May 30th episode of Jeopardy! Contestant Steve Knapp buzzed for the category Potpourri for $300.
Ok, so a few things. "Female tennis" 😬 I wasn't thinking, my brain was in hyperspecific mode. No offense meant. 😳

Mayim read as a cartoon pops up, “Sadly the Heath Hen went extinct in 1932, but we still have its relative, the Prairie ‘this,’ known for its courtship displays.”
Steven responded, “What is: A Prairie Grouse?” but Mayim said, “No.” After a few seconds of silence and another incorrect response, she said, “That’s a chicken!”
However, prairie grouses are also known as prairie chickens. Jeopardy! fans slammed her on Twitter for making that costly mistake. Both producers and Mayim were informed of the mistake and updated Steve’s score. However, some viewers were surprised as the game rarely pauses to admit its mistakes.
What are your thoughts on Mayim and Ryan’s blunders? Do you think it’s just human error? Do you think both should be given a hard time? Sound off below in the comment section.

This current host Mayim is a disgrace to ALEX and JEOPARDY. Her wardrobe and hair style is not suitable for a national ,,,TV show. Her errors have been many and her performance is below , Jeopardy’s standards. Any of the previous hosts beats her. Please find someone else to host ALEX TREBECK’S famous show.
Why does Mayim not just disappear! She can’t do anything to make her appearance look good. Who was the female that Alex wanted to replace him?
Barbara Williams was totally correct in her comment about Mayim. I will not watch Jeopardy if she is the host. When she is the host, the show is all about her. It should be about the contestants. She is a disgrace and her wardrobe is ridiculous. Bring back Ken Jennings as the permanent host.
Lighten up folks! It’s just a T. V. show.
I hate when she is on the show…such a HORRIBLE choice for a host..she dresses like someone who rummaged through a trash bin full of decades old clothes & I know she can’t do much about her looks – but she needs help. Then she pauses longer than usual to let the contestants know if they answered correctly & makes many dumb comments & mistakes. Bring back Ken – he lets the show be about the game & the contestants – not about the host!
I love Jeopardy! and will always watch it, it is about the CONTESTANTS and the fun of the game. Mayim is not the best choice and she does interject too often. Ken is certainly the better choice, he has grown into the role, he keeps a good pace and interacts well with the contestants.
Good grief! I watch Jeopardy to see the game played, not to comment on Mayim’s wardrobe or hairdo. ðŸ˜
Give Mayim a break. You judge her clothes?! You say she makes the show about her? What are you people talking about? Every host has their foibles. I watch the show faithfully for the game play. What are you watching it for? What else is the show on the air for? Yes, I have my opinions of all the guest hosts, but come on, folks… aren’t you all being a bit misogynistic?
I like seeing imperfection. The host doesn’t come to work knowing all the correct answers. Mistakes seem to be graciously corrected. The contestants are under great stress but still, for the most part, conform to rules and changes. Keep it real,OR, replace with robot’s 🌸
Right because Alex Trebeck NEVER made mistakes….whatever! I like her and Ken equally. I think people need to lighten up. Just because she doesn’t dress like you, it’s wrong? Come on! I still feel like some people are threatened by intelligent females.
