As of late, the news has been dominated by the tragedy of mass shootings. On May 14, 2022, 10 people died during a shooting at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
Ten days later, 19 children and 2 teachers were gunned down in an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
The attacks have shocked the nation and renewed the gun control debate. Both shootings were carried out with an AK-15, per The Sun.
Outspoken Kelly Dodd waded into the gun control debate by reposting a meme going around the internet. The meme compares the school shooting to the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
The meme suggests that securing schools is the answer to gun violence. “After 9-11 we didn’t ban planes. We secured the cockpits. Secure the schools,” the meme read.
Her tweet received over 1000 comments, many of which were negative. One fan called her “tone deaf” for sharing the meme. “I like you but this statement is so tone deaf. Imagine your child in that situation? Would you feel the same?” they wrote.
Kelly Dodd husband defends her actions
Following the backlash, Kelly Dodd and her husband made a video defending her opinion.
Posted on her YouTube and social media, the video clarifies her stance. Kelly Dodd advocates for securing the schools NOW while politicians work on gun control laws. Watch the video below.
The RHOC alum also called out Page Six for implying she created the 9-11 comparison meme. In response, she did create a meme that laid out her thoughts on gun control.
In her own words, she writes, “I NEVER said we shouldn’t have STRICTER gun laws.” Rather, she thinks the country “should do a BETTER job of keeping WEAPONS out of the hands of CRIMINALS & the MENTALLY ill.”
