Katie Maloney Grew Tired Of Waiting For Tom Schwartz To Change?

Katie Maloney revealed the real reason why she split from Tom Schwartz. The former couple shocked fans when they announced their decision to separate in March. Yet, it wasn’t a total shock for those who watched their relationship play out in past seasons of Vanderpump Rules.

During Season 9, Katie hoped they would start a family together. That would’ve required Schwartz to change his unhealthy lifestyle. Katie admitted that she got tired of waiting around for her husband to change. In a new podcast interview, she shared the details behind their split.

Tired of waiting around for Tom Schwartz

On the heels of her split from Tom Schwartz, Katie Maloney admitted she got tired of the way her estranged spouse treated her. She also grew tired of waiting for him to change his ways. The 35-year-old said her husband’s inability to change led to the decision to end their marriage.

“You sit around and wait for someone to start behaving differently or act right,” Katie Maloney admitted on the latest episode of Dear Media’s Relations*** with Kamie Crawford. “And then it’s just like, why am I sitting, hoping and waiting for something like that?”

Ideally, Katie Maloney wanted a happy and fulfilling marriage with kids. However, Schwartz wasn’t focused on that. Season 9 was also about Schwartz’s new bar with Tom Sandoval. He couldn’t agree with his wife about the name Schwartz & Sandy’s.

Katie also couldn’t see eye-to-eye with Sandoval on their business plans. This led some fans to wonder if Sandoval was the reason for their split. However, Katie maintains that it had to do more with Schwartz not changing and disrespecting her.

“It started to feel very disrespectful to myself,” Katie Maloney continued. “Like, these kinds of behaviors are hurtful to me, and nothing’s changed. When my behavior was destructive and hurtful to the relationship, I got my s*** together because God forbid I destroy this relationship that is so important to me.”

Katie Maloney didn’t want to end her marriage

The Bravo star said she worked on herself over the years. She also worked hard to keep their 12-year relationship together. Katie Maloney admitted that she didn’t want to end their marriage. Ultimately, she had to focus on her own happiness.

“I didn’t marry this person because I ultimately wanted to get a divorce,” she said. “We were at one point trying to start a family. That was a goal of ours together… but then I’m also thinking, ‘What have I done for myself in this?’ What am I getting out of this? Are my needs being met?”

Katie Maloney admits that her confidence took a hit during their marriage. She felt like she was “coming last in the relationship and in his life.” While their marriage is over, Katie said the two work better as friends. They both attended Stassi Schroeder and Beau Clark’s Italian wedding.

She’s gotten used to having Schwartz around since they have the same friend group.  They also have to figure out how they’re going to split custody of their dogs. Katie and Schwartz have had a better friendship since their split. As for her decision to go public with the split, Katie said she noticed “speculation and rumors.”
