The CW network just landed in hot water with viewers. They made some shocking decisions this week. The network canceled Charmed, Dynasty, Legacies, and Naomi, among others. They managed to anger multiple fanbases at once. Some of the viewers have threatened to “boycott” the station.
The company is in the midst of a massive merger with WarnerMedia-Discovery. That means they have to forgo most of their programming. On Thursday, May 12, they announced that they have to cancel the aforementioned programs, including The 4400 and Roswell, New Mexico. Fans aren’t happy and have taken to social media to share their frustrations.
The CW canceled many shows
The CW has canned many shows. This comes a few months after it canceled and renewed several shows. Naomi and The 4400 only lasted one season on the network. The CW is trying to revamp itself in the midst of its merger with Discovery.
The Charmed and Roswell reboots were canceled after four seasons. Even the popular series Legacies and In The Dark have been canned. Some fans are holding out hope for the future of these shows. Since In The Dark and Dynasty have a massive international fanbase on Netflix, it’s likely that the streaming service could pick them up.
This comes after the news that ViacomCBS and WarnerMedia may sell The CW to WarnerMedia-Discovery, which attracted a new generation of younger viewers. It had a promising run with hit shows like Riverdale and Walker. However, the CW can’t be profitable on its own, while ViacomCBS and Warner Bros. can get value for the shows they produce.
This is why the network had to can most of their shows this week. However, fans aren’t happy. They have stormed social media in light of this news. Some of them are planning to boycott the network.
Fans slam the cancelations
Most fans of The CW took Twitter by storm. That’s where most of their outspoken fans are at. Most of the uproar stemmed from the Dynasty fanbase. One outraged fan called the cancellations “so upsetting.” Here are just some of the other comments:
- “WHAT THE HELL?”
- “WTF WHYYYYY??? NO, I WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS!”
- “Cancel Riverdale instead.”
- “The CW canceling Dynasty is my villain origin story.”
- “Literally Dynasty was the last decent thing they had IMO. Yes I’m p*ssed.”
Dynasty star Liz Gillies is not letting the news get her down. She took to Instagram to share a shot from Friday’s episode and to tease that there are “12 episodes” left before crying over the show’s end. What are your thoughts on The CW canceling these shows?
