Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5 Teaser Reveals Redemption And Revenge Themes

Johnny (William Zabka) might get it right this season five of Cobra Kai for Netflix.  Season five’s trailer debuted today, and the continuation shows themes of both revenge and redemption for the main characters.

The badass grown man Johnny Lawrence fights to get Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) back home and regain his trust as he repairs his relationship with his biological son, Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan).

We left off season four in a massive cliffhanger as Cobra Kai fell into control under Silver’s watch, as Robby saw Kenny beat up Anthony LaRusso. Robby realized that his mentorship with Kenny was a manipulation.

The finals showed Robby losing the match, and Eli took the boys champion. Tory defeated Sam, but Robby was also unaware that Silver bribed the referee to take the victory.

Johnny and Robby eventually have a break and reconcile, but Miguel has taken off, causing Johnny’s romantic relationship with Miguel’s mother to strain.

The teaser opens where we left off at the 51ST Annual All Valley Karate Championship as the winner of the grand champion trophy is awarded to Cobra Kai. The subsequent footage shows how Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) is branching the dojo and spreading it all across the San Fernando Valley.

The turning point has Johnny on the road with Robby as they search for Miguel, and it reveals that Robby is giving his wayward father a second chance. Less clear is how Miguel will react once they all reconnect.

Silver has no remorse or ethics when it comes to being number one. Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) is at a crossroads between continuing his dojo or shuttering it for good after the turn of events.

In the final scene of the teaser, LaRusso says, “Hey, whoa! No! I didn’t mean literally cut his head off,” when telling Johnny Lawrence what they needed to do.

Netflix says:

“With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s caused, Daniel LaRusso must call on an old friend for help. Cobra Kai Season 5 premieres September 9 only on Netflix.”
