SPOILERS FOR SURVIVOR SEASON 42 EPISODE 3:
Episode 3 of Survivor 42 saw Jenny Kim out of the game via a 2 person tie-breaker. The tie-breaker took place between Hai and Daniel. They were the only two who still had their votes besides the two (Jenny and Lydia) who were at risk of leaving the game. Ultimately, the agreement between Daniel and Hai was for Jenny to go home.
In the episode, Daniel shows his hand way too early saying he absolutely will not go to rocks. This is an easy signal to Hai that he can simply plant his feet firmly to save his ally, Lydia. Many fans are angry with the episode’s results, saying Jenny does not deserve going home due to two other players’ mistakes. In the aftermath of the episode, Jenny did an exit interview with Rob Has A Podcast to discuss what she thinks of Daniel’s tribal performance.
Jenny & Daniel
“It was very frustrating to, just, feel powerless, at that moment,” said Jenny.
Jenny is someone many fans appreciate because her gameplay is very calm and calculating. In contrast, many of the players on this season feel somewhat all over the place. Especially Jenny’s alliance members, Chanelle and Daniel, who are both frankly more responsible for Jenny’s elimination than the two who actually cast votes for her.
In the interview, Jenny talks about telling Chanelle not to risk her vote. The exact reason why Chanelle chose to risk it after telling both Jenny and Omar that she wouldn’t is still unclear and very confusing. Jenny also spoke about the possibility of Daniel going to rocks. He made it clear from the beginning that he was unwilling to consider it. Something Hai used as leverage to save Lydia. Jenny said she understands Daniel’s position there, stating that as a superfan herself, she also would have been unwilling to go to rocks.
It seems like Jenny has mostly come to terms with her untimely elimination. In a way, she can rest easy knowing that there’s really no reason to blame herself for what happened. Hopefully, she gets another chance at the show someday. She is very well-liked amongst the fans and very much deserves another chance to show her true strategic capabilities.
A Tragic Survivor 42 Exit
Jenny’s exit from the game is undoubtedly tragic. The big question is what the consequences of her departure will be? Does Daniel have any allies left after alienating himself at tribal? If Mike is still without his vote, could there be another 2-2 tie at the next Vati tribal? It’s all up in the air, and this season is making it clear that we should expect nothing.
