SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SURVIVOR SEASON 42 EPISODE 3:

In the article about Episode 3’s elimination, it said that there were many firsts. So many firsts, in fact, that it’s best to write an entirely separate article explaining them all. This is a crazy episode, and it’s another piece cementing Season 42 as one of the best seasons in recent history.

Several have complained about the episode’s elimination. Saying that Jenny’s elimination is the result of bad twists, not bad gameplay. In reality, Jenny’s elimination is the result of bad gameplay, just not necessarily her own bad gameplay. There’s already been record-setting bad gameplay in Season 42. Zach Wurtenberger being the first player truly unanimously getting every vote at tribal council is crazy. And there’s even more landmark bad gameplay in Episode 3 to follow it up.

Every First In Episode 3

Let’s list out every first in Episode 3 before getting into them. Episode 3 has:

  • The first tribal council where two tribe members are unable to cast votes.
  • The first tribal where a tie-vote is decided solely by 2 people.
  • The first time players have to reveal twists because of conflicting rules.
  • The first time they forego an entire section of a challenge because players couldn’t finish it.
  • The first time an entire tribe didn’t get a single confessional for a whole episode.

That’s a lot. So much that the entire reason Ika tribe didn’t get a single confessional is probably that there was so much happening on Taku and Vati. Them foregoing an entire section of a challenge for the first time is also worth its own article.

As far as the tribal council firsts go, they work hand-in-hand. Mike lost his vote due to the three-way idol that still needs activation. Chanelle lost her vote due to gambling it away, even though she knew she had tribal right after said gamble. A move that will definitely go down as one of the worst in the season. This results in a tribal council with 6 people but only 4 votes. Then those votes tie two different times! Everybody knows after two ties in Survivor, the voting players must reach a consensus or go to rocks. But Mike and Chanelle are not allowed to participate because of their lost votes. So they have to reveal this to their unaware tribe members. An absolutely crazy tribal council.

Survivor 42: A Record Season

There are so many strange moments from Season 42 thus far. While it’s frustrating to watch castaways like Daniel and Chanelle fumble, it also makes for great TV. So here’s hoping the madness only continues from here on out. Some fans are fairly unhappy with Jenny’s elimination in Episode 3. However, they’ll get over it as long as the rest of the season continues to entertain.

New episodes of Survivor Season 42 go up every Wednesday.
